Things That Annoy Me!

When you buy something from a website and they automatically add you to their marketing email list. Especially when you have previously unsubscribed from their marketing list…sometimes more than once.

Reminds me of a colleague who thought a book was at fault for ending differently than the movie. She didn’t know there was a book but opted to read it because she loved the movie. Apparently, she felt the author should have deferred to the screenwriter.

Ooh, would you consider posting it under a spoiler tag?

This is more of a light annoy - friends of my sons’ from high school or younger who see us at a restaurant or store and start talking to us without realizing that 24 - 27 year old guys look quite different than they did in middle or high school and don’t say who they are. I hate doing the “who are you?” so generally try the generic “what are you up to these days?” or “ how are your parents?” and try to figure it out from the clues. Happened last week and my husband was chatting away with the young man so when he walked away I said “who was that?” and my husband said “I have no idea, I thought you recognized him.”

Sirius XM. Calls me 2x a day. Can’t block the d*mn thing.

A friend was in charge of finding a restaurant for us to get together. The restaurant’s menu was online for all to see. The menu was limited - seafood tower, skews , lobster roll, and fruit salad. A dozen oyster was $95 and a lobster roll was $50. Lets not talk about drinks. I thought I was fairly immune from price shock, but I was. I guess I could have looked at the menu too, but who knew.

I’ve deposited checks using mobile banking for years. For the first time, last week a check (from a client I’ve had since 2017) was put on a “six business day hold.” ?? I called the bank and it took 15 minutes for them to clear it. I asked what the issue was, and the guy said he couldn’t tell. When I said that six days is a long time to hold a check, he replied, “Well, that’s if you do nothing…” So I guess the onus is on me to call and wait 15 minutes to have access to funds. If it happens again, I’m going to complain!

I find that there’s 0 hold when I go in person to bank but varying holds for online deposits. Sometimes even though online confirms the deposit was made it does NOT show up on my statement! I have to go in and bring my check that didn’t show up—no apology by them. Argh!

The bank wants the float.
(The use of that money for those 6 days)

Today, Williams Sonoma. Their stuff IS NOT inexpensive.
I ordered 2 sets of dish towels from them, and one came obviously defective. I called on Saturday - no problem, they will send me new ones and send a return label so we can send the bad ones back. No problem, right? So, we spend maybe 30 minutes on the phone with this woman who cannot get a return label to go through to either my email or my husband’s. She eventually thinks she’s got it, and if it should come through within the hour. Of course it doesn’t.
Sunday - I call again. Closed, have to call Monday.
Monday - I call. Get another person who says the first one didn’t process it correctly, or maybe the system messed up. About the same time I’m talking to her husband gets an email that says the replacement towel order has been cancelled. This woman tells us we have to return the towels with the label she will send to us, and then we will get new towels sent to us. Only problem… system is down and she can’t generate a return label. I ask to speak to a supervisor, and I’m told it will be 30-45 minutes but she’s happy to hold with me. Of course I’m not holding 45 more minutes!!!
All this for towels that were only $24.99 or something.
I did send an email to what may or may not be their customer service yesterday, and another today. Later in the day husband got an email indicating new towels were being sent.
Anyone want to place a bet on what happens next?

Yes, it’s just weird because we’ve used this bank for our business for 26 years and they’ve never done this before.

Last year I got an online newspaper subscription for $1 for a year, but that would renew at something like $12/month. Even though I signed up with my long time email, they took my google email so I never really got in the habit of reading it daily and I didn’t want to continue.

Took them up on their ‘cancel anytime’ offer. Or I tried to. Found the webpage, found the ‘cancel’ button, pushed cancel, and then got a screen that said “sorry to see you go and we’ll walk you thru this”. But then everything froze. Started again, same outcome. Tried on the phone, but that kept cutting me off. I sent an email and said cancel, you aren’t authorized to charge my card (and I think it is on the card that I had to replace after a hack).

I did get an email on Sunday morning saying they were sorry for the trouble, but if I wanted to keep the subscription for $.25/week that I could cancel at any time. I responded I clearly CAN’T cancel at any time as it has taken me 2 days to cancel.

That my FB page is flooded for ads for “comfortable shoes for wide feet”. Yet, when I look at the websites, they don’t carry wide sizes.
