Things That Annoy Me!

My current annoyance is my dentist’s voice response system. I chipped a tooth on Thursday. I called their office twice on Friday during what they list as their normal business hours. Got the VRU both times. Got as far as the system offering me three possible options for appointments, all weeks away when I am out of town. No option to choose another date or to talk to a person. I also submitted a request on their website for a callback. They never called. If I don’t get this resolved tomorrow, I will be in the market for a new dentist.

My parents tolerated friends who were chronically late and they ruined dinner more times than I can remember. It’s a hard no for me. And the people who suddenly have an “emergency” every single time and cancel at the last minute…also no.

We are no contact with my sister. One of the reasons is her complete disregard for our time (there are many others). We live an hour from my mother, she lives a few blocks from my mother’s. We’d plan our 2 toddlers’ meals and naps around getting there on time, they’d waltz in 90 minutes late (and my kids were starving at this point), holding a Starbucks. Half the time the excuse was that my niece “wanted to stop somewhere”. Yes, they let their 5-year-old dictate a stop at Starbucks, or “wanted to play with someone”.
My mother (For whom time doesn’t exist, seriously, if you ask her when to show up she will not give you a time. I think it is because of my sister) would pretend it was normal and not even start cooking until they arrived.

Turns out, it’s generational. D22 has decided she wants a relationship with her cousin (the one that refused to share and would hit her with toys and sticks while my sister did nothing). They’ve made plans twice now to see my niece at my mother’s. Once, she showed up over an hour late, so she could only stay for 20 minutes (after my daughter left work early and drove over an hour to be there on time), and the other time she cancelled, then said she could make it, then cancelled again.

My annoyance is how appointments are scheduled at my medical center. We go there because it’s easy “one stop shopping” and they have everything under one roof or nearby. The problem is, when they give you a referral, you can’t make the appointment yourself. The specialist’s office needs to call you. There used to be an office downstairs, but I think since Covid, they have people doing this from home. Now, they call you to schedule the appointment. The problem is, they always call while I’m working and can’t pick up. Plus, since they are not calling from the medical center line, my phone tags it as spam and doesn’t even let it through. I can’t add the number because it is different every time.

Agree with all former MD appointment issues.

Called my Eye Clinic to ask about a recent eye problem. Recording said a triage call would be returned within 4 hours. Called again at 3.5 hours to make sure they had my correct cell number (an excuse they used in the past for different issue). No return call. Called again at 5 hours, and reached a real person who said I needed an appointment (2 weeks out).

Called 1 week later, when issue was getting worse to check for any cancellation options. No, but they would put me through to the triage person who can potentially find a sooner appointment time. Same recording saying they would return call in 4 hours. No return call.

Called same office (different selection number) to get a copy of past visit record (no web portal that I could find). Asked if I could pick up or email. No reply (over a week). I’ll just get them at upcoming appointment – unless they call to change the date, which they’ve done for EVERY SINGLE visit. When rescheduling on their part, they always try for 3-6 months later than appointment, unless I firmly push to find one within 30 days of the original date.

Office interaction the worst. I only stay because of 2 specialist MD’s who have been great.

Friend asks us to plan to arrive early at yesterday’s party we were both attending (her DH is a germophobe and they also claimed they would not know a lot of people- not true! ) So We make the appetizer we are planning to bring and plan to go early, and then I see on Facebook that the friends are in FL!! I texted her and she said they decided to go down b/c some furniture was being delivered this week, and they told the hosts (but not us!)

I never received a callback from the message I sent to the dentist’s office on Friday, so I tried the VRU again today. First time the call never went through. The second time it disconnected mid-call. The third time I got through the whole process and tried to schedule an appointment for the first time that was available only to have it then tell me that appointment was no longer available.

I then tried to submit another online message. This time it told me my Captcha failed, but it never gave me a Captcha! I tried on two devices and received the same message on both. So it is possible that the message I sent on Friday never went through.

I looked for other options to contact them and saw an email address for the office manager. I received a callback shortly after my email. She took my information and explained they were short staffed. She is going to check with the dentist and call me back. Still no appointment yet though.

You can imagine what it was like for me, moving from Texas to Maine! :open_mouth:

I dislike being interrupted while I am trying to enjoy my lunch at work.

“Mmmm, what’s that? That looks and smells so good!”
“I’ll get back to you in ten minutes after I’m done trying to enjoy it.”

or

“Hey, Tom, you have some of that on your face.”

I just glare. lol

ETA, or “how I became antisocial while eating”:

Picture a house in the woods of northern Wisconsin in the pre-internet days: mom, dad, daughter, and yours truly. We zoom in on a dining room table, where all four are seated for dinner. Mom and daughter are attempting to sustain conversation at the table, and annoying the heck out of father and son, who respond with grunts. This enflames the females, who would like to know all about the goings-on of the males that day. Finally, one of the males sighs, drops knife and fork, and as quickly and succinctly as possible, summarizes his day – taking one for the Y-chromosome team.

This is why I don’t like being bothered while I eat. Sustenance and hydration are of the utmost importance. hehe

I’m on a road trip, and people who are loud in the hallways at 6:30 a.m. annoy me. There are always some who talk loud, slam their doors, let their kids run and scream as if they are completely unaware hotels are for sleeping.

One of our major grocery stores always has expired food on the shelves. Even things that aren’t expired are close to the expiration date. I buy the same iteams at the store down the street and the expiration date will be months away.

For the past couple of years, we’ve been having trouble with skim milk at Walmart. The newest of any variety is a full week past its expired date. From time to time H complains, but it never changes.

On Sunday, he was disgruntled enough to ask for a manager. Waited 10 minutes. None came. So he went to the customer service told him it wasn’t her problem. H replied she was a manager and it was her problem. She said “whatever,” turned around and went in the back. Ummm ok. We did call the contact center and reported that one. You can at least pretend to care like the others.

Dates on food may mean one of several things. That itself is an annoyance.

Dates on milk mean something, for sure, give or take a week.

We’re talking meat and yogurt, too. I once took all the expired yogurt off the self and brought it to customer service. They were not happy. It was back on the shelf the next day.

I avoid that store, but sometimes, it’s the one I pass on the way home and I don’t want to go 15 minutes in the other direction.

After having so much trouble getting reimbursed for the damage caused by the accident in Poland, I’ve decided I’m going to bite the bullet and buy the agency’s. I do NOT want to go through that hassle again. Having $3,800 charged to our card was too stressful.

Very annoyed by the ending of the movie I watched last night. I had loved the book and was destroyed that the movie ended differently. Won’t say which movie so as not to spoil for others who may be okay with it due to not having read the book or who may not care.
