That has suddenly been advertising all over my email and facebook. TBH I have had some fasteners and carry gizmos, ad its just one more thing I have to stick in my pocket, so I don’t.
I have a question about mobile passport control. I love it. But I will have to renew my passport next summer before a trip next fall, and I believe they will issue me a new passport number. Will I have to contact MPC to update that?
Every time you use the mobile passport control app, you rescan the passport or enter the passport information manually, so it should not matter that the renewed passport has a new number.
Good question. I don’t remember what I did about that when I renewed my passport in 2022. Sorry.
As noted above, and I’ll add that within hours of using MPC the info you’ve entered “disappears” which is why it requires you to re-enter all your information every time. It’s also why it’s not a good idea to pre-populate the information - you need to wait until the plane/ship is pulling in to the airport/port.
Going to see Christmas markets for the first time this year. We are from California so don’t owe any warm clothes or shoes. We travel light and don’t check in bags. Any good walking shoes suggestions?
thanks. But I will have to update my touchless account on Delta, I believe
We did the German markets a few years ago. We are from the Northeast and know how to dress warm, however, it was a dank cold. I would suggest boots not shoes for the trip - ones that keep you warm, dry, and have decent traction. We wore our big winter parkas with hoods over sweaters and still felt chilly many evenings (although the mulled drinks did help to warm us from the inside out).
I always wear my bulkiest stuff on the plane - so we wore our big coats and boots on the plane.
I looked at Clipsticks last year but never opted to buy them. For the most part, my skis stay together with ski break interlock. But I may start using thick rubberbands (like on broccoli) to keep the tails together. Or maybe use the velcro strap idea above.
We spent a week in Munich last Thanksgiving for the markets and then did a Viking Xmas market cruise. Funny that I didn’t think it was that cold, and we live in southern VA.
I wore my running shoes most of the time and was fine. I also had a pair of Clark ankle boots in case the running shoes got wet or I wanted something a little nicer. I can stroll 2-3 miles in them just fine.
I bought this coat from Costco last year. My requirements were black, a good hood, good pockets, and covers my rear end. This had everything and was only $20. My H bought one too. We were matchers, lol, but everybody wore black coats. We all looked the same. I love the zippered pockets.
I also had an awesome hat and a headband that covers my ears. I don’t think I needed the hat many days nor my heavier gloves. I also brought 3 long sleeved base layer shirts that I wore under sweatshirts, or just by themselves under my coat.
Thanks so much for the feedback on the Clipstic. Seems like one more thing to buy (have dropped so much cash on gear
). But I do struggle with carrying everything and not getting tired lol. Appreciate hearing there are other simple options. ![]()
@ClassicMom98 $20?! That’s an amazing deal!
A lot of the clothing sold by Costco comes from 32degrees.com . They carry excellent quality clothing forall at extremely low prices. I have three puffy vests and two coats from there plus pants, shirts, etc.
I wore a lightweight down jacket from Uniqlo with a longer rain jacket over it. Under it I wore merino wool sweaters and either the 32° long sleeve shirts and pants from Costco or the Heat Tech from Uniqlo. Running gloves were ok, but I was glad to have some warmer wool ones along as well.
For shoes, I brought along my running shoes and a pair of leather booties. With wool socks, my feet were pretty warm.
You can always pick up a scarf and hat at one of the markets. The medieval market in Esslingen, near Stuttgart, had lovely ones.
The pouches seem to all be 5 ounce size, so not for carryon?
Yes. I haven’t found any pouches smaller than 5oz.
You will need to update everything that has your passport number. I recently got my passport and had to update everything - including airlines and tickets with my passport info.
The place where passport number changes might be relevant is in the files of the various airlines that you fly. I believe that at least some of them retain the passport number (and other information) so that you don’t have to re-enter them every time. For me, that has been relevant as I have often had a lot of international flights in a year. These days down quite a bit but still a number every year for work and play.
Ooooo! Please come back and update us after your trip! I’ve got that on my travel “to-do” list!
I forgot to share a packing hack my mother taught me! She used hotel shower caps to cover her shoes when packing, keeping the dirt off her clothes. I’ve been doing the same ever since! ![]()
