"Things working against you" essay help

So I’m working on the writing supplements for Pitt, and I’m stuck on the essay prompt: “Describe a situation where things were working against you. What did you handle well and what would you change if you had to do it over?”

I have absolutely no idea what I’m supposed to write about. I’ve never been in a situation where I had to face that much adversity. The only thing that fits is moving and having to make new friends, but I don’t think I could write a decent essay about moving that even comes close to the 7000 character limit. It’s something that happened long ago, and something that I didn’t handle well either.

So, what am I supposed to write about?

I am having the same problem. I have been staring at this question for months and no one, not me or any family or friends, has come up with a good answer. I have been fortunate enough to live a pampered upper middle class life with loving and supportive parents. I can’t come up with any time where things have been working against me. What did you end up writing? Because Pitt isn’t too high on my list, but it would be a shame not to apply just because I can’t answer the essay prompt.

These two articles might spark some ideas…
