Thinking about dropping out.

I’ve been in college for about a year now and finding it extremely tedious. I really just have a hard time sitting there listening to someone for an hour and half. I’ve manage to get straight A’s by self studying all the material.

However I’m having a hard time believing that I could do the 9 to 5 job every day. It just seems so repetitive and monotonous so to me a college degree is pretty worthless. Anybody else feel similar?

I feel the same way. I’m exceptionally smart and I like learning but I hate the motions of getting up going to class. I think you should either take online classes or find a trade or something you’re interested in and study that. That way if it is a 9 to 5 then its something you love. Example my boyfriend is good at auto mechanic work but chose to pursue EMT because he wasn’t interested in standard English, Math, ETC. classes. Now he’s taking classes geared towards EMT. =)

Have you taken upper level classes? Generally, the higher you get the less lecture-type classes you get and you might find them much more engaging.

I will start upper level classes this fall. I’m a bit nervous but excited.

Maybe you’re not studying the right thing? What’s your major/planned major?

It’s probably just the general eds getting you down. Once you start with your major classes, you’ll probably find things far more interesting.

I also do not do well in classes with yappy profs that like to lecture. You should start looking at your learning style and see if you can find professors that teach the way you like to learn. Ask your friends for prof recommendations, I never take a prof without at least 3 different recs
