I go to a private university now, and don’t really like it.

my dream school does not have my major (education, which I’m really sure I want to do) but (ideally) I have found similar small liberal arts schools.

the problem: I live and go to school on the west coast, and the only schools that really scream out at me are ALL on the east coast. I don’t know if I could visit/my parents would not be too happy about me switching coasts as a transfer, I think. also, I’ve heard scholarships go down and I would still need a decent scholarship to attend (like I have here).

is this just a horrible idea? should I just suck it up here, or transfer to a state school I’ll probably like okay?

I would certainly apply to just see what happens. If you love the school you attend, going home will feel less important. Have you looked at NYU Gallatin or Sarah Lawrence? They seem perfect for you (East coast schools obviously, but still seem to be exactly what you want!) Good luck and I hope you are happy with your decision!

What level of education? Secondary now tends to require an undergraduate subject major with graduate training in teaching. Also, where do you want to live/teach? It’s a good idea to get your certification in that state.
