Thinking of Transferring

I’m a non-traditional adult freshmen student completing my bachelor’s degree fully online which I’m currently in my first semester. I’m currently enrolled in Georgetown SCS BA in Liberal Studies with a concentration in Media, Communications, Humanities. I currently have a 4.0 and I’m considering transferring to Saint Joseph’s University for their fully online BBA degree with plans of staying there and pursing a M.S. in Marketing with it.

I plan on applying for the Fall of 2025. I feel this is a better program for me if my end goal is business and marketing. Just seems like a program that could take me further than a BA in Liberal Studies from Georgetown scs could. I also like how the SJU program is directly through there Haub school of business which is pretty reputable. You think I should finish where I’m at and pursue Marketing as a master’s after my BA from G’town, or do you think it’s worth transferring? I got a great financial aid package from G’town and would most likely get the same at SJU or a possible transfer scholarship.

Personal call. Only you can decide.

Personally I believe major over school but - ask both programs for placement stats. Online school may have different stats than in person.

I’m a Georgetown alumna and my son is a St. Joe’s alumnus, so I know both schools well.

It really surprises me to think of transferring to SJU rather than finishing at Georgetown, primarily due to the benefits of the Georgetown name for networking, future employment, etc. Don’t get me wrong - my son had a great experience in Haub at SJU, but his first choice was Georgetown.

Can you potentially take some business classes at Georgetown? Can you meet with an advisor to discuss?

My current situation is I plan on starting a business with my family and plan to do market research analytics for this business and eventually run this business on my own in the future. When I applied for programs, I wanted a solid Catholic University who provided terrific programs, but also carried some weight in networking etc.

I was fortunate to be admitted to both Georgetown scs for an online BA in Liberal Studies with a concentration in Business and Entrepreneurship. At Villanova I was admitted into their online bachelor’s degree in Entrepreneurship. I liked Villanova’s program it was more business focused and structured for my liking. Georgetown’s program is a little more sporadic in choosing concentrations and electives. You kind of pick and choose your own way, even with the core curriculum. Unfortunately, I submitted FASFA for Villanova a little late, so never got a package in time which made me choose the Georgetown program. I got the ball rolling to Transfer to Villanova for the fall of 2025 for that Entrepreneurship program, got FASFA already sent in and depending on if they give me a good package and possibly a transfer scholarship, I’m most likely going to transfer there instead of SJU. SJU said I’d have to come to campus to complete some courses which i live on the west coast so it’s not achievable for me.

I got a great deal at Georgetown, and I have been enjoying my classes. I’ll end up staying here and completing my degree if Villanova ends up being more expensive, I don’t see a point in transferring. I can always go to Villanova for an MBA after I receive my BA from Georgetown.
