What can they realistically do to her even if she’s convicted? There’s no way the US is going to turn her over to Italy, correct? (I haven’t been following closely this time around)

Romani, I strongly doubt that we would turn her over but if we didn’t it could, I suppose, put a damper on our relations with Italy. I don’t understand why her old BF (Solicito) remains in Italy. He’s even been attending the latest trial. If he is found guilty, the court will just scoop him up and throw him back in jail.

And No, I don’t think there’s anything that can happen to Knox if we decline to turn her over. Kind of a waste, though – here is a young woman who speaks fluent Italian, and if she’s found guilty, she’ll never be able to travel to Italy again.

I’m really hoping the Italians can put Mignini’s craziness finally to rest. It astounds me that any reasonable person believes his Satanic sex games scenario.

My guess is that they will try to pin the whole thing on Amanda Knox and let Sollecito go, which would explain why he is in the courtroom and she is not. The new prosecutor’s scenario is that Amanda Knox held Meredith down while Rudy Guede raped her, then stabbed her in the neck because she wasn’t doing her share in cleaning the bathroom (roommate spat). That would preserve Mignini’s fantasy and let them drop the whole thing.

No, she’s not going back to Italy, nor will anyone remotely associated with her.

I can’t think of any reason under any circumstance why Amanda Knox would return willingly to Italy. Isn’t there a part of Switzerland or some other country where folks speak Italian? That would be a better choice!

Is Italy a superstitious country in general? I know the religiosity of the country is very high but I know absolutely nothing about Italy or Italian culture.

They are big on reputation and never admitting mistakes, so once he accused Amanda Knox he had to construct the case, however ridiculous. Italian prosecutors also serve as the lead investigator and have much more power within the courtroom.

It seems to me that Amanda would need to do some serious research as to any other countries extradition policy with Italy, she could be nabbed as she enters any country and sent back to Italy if that is the policy there!

Just heard on the news that the murder conviction has been upheld, and that she would face 30 years in prison if she were to return to Italy. No word on the boyfriend in the 10 second bit I heard.

Italian authorities know that she is never returning to Italy and that the U.S. government will not extradite her. So I am thinking this verdict is more for the benefit of Judith Kershners family who remain devastated by release of Knox and her ex-bf. Having said that, let’s see how they handle the boyfriend. Not sure he is in the Italy right now, thought I heard he was in the Dominican Republic. So if that is true, I find it interesting that he was not in Italy either when the veridic was released.

The original convictions are reinstated for both. Amanda Knox will have to argue against double jeopardy laws and the fabricated DNA evidence in US courts to avoid extradition. No word on the whereabouts of Raffaele - hopefully out of the country by now.

28 1/2 year sentences for two innocent people just so as not to embarass Giuliano Mignini - it’s better to embarass the whole Italian justice system.

How can the prosecution change the story from a bizarre ritual of sex games to simply an argument over cleaning the bathroom. If I was on the jury I would have dismissed the entire case based on this alone. How can you believe anything the prosecutors are saying when their story changes so radically.

This entire episode makes me a little nervous about traveling to Italy.

I doubt what really happened will ever be known, but theories abound. Mine is she was involved but not the murderer (although being involved makes you just as guilty in the eyes of the law, the way the getaway driver gets charged with the same crimes as the robbers). Here’s my guess as to what happened. Knox disliked her roommate Meredith, and hatched a plan for a dose of humiliation. Knox and her BF had met a thief (Rudy) in town, probably thru one of their party connections. It was just before break. Knox knows Rudy is leaving town soon, so she tells Rudy about her hot roommate who she dislikes. They set up a plan for Rudy to rape Meredith and leave town. Nobody would ever catch Rudy and Knox would have the satisfaction of knowing the somewhat prudish Meredith (who looked down on Knox for her casual sex) got hers. Knox and her BF are at her home to leave the door unlocked and then to also enjoy the sounds of Meredith being attacked. But it goes wrong. For whatever reason (panic, aggression, etc) Rudy changes the plan and starts stabbing Meredith. Knox and BF are horrified and go to Meredith’s room, too late to save her, but in the meantime putting a towel on Meredith to try to staunch the bleeding and handling things like the murder weapon. Now they are really invested in making sure Rudy gets away because he can finger them for their involvement, so they make haphazard attempts to cover up the crime scene.
