third sats and rotc

hi i did not know that penn had an rotc until i read a thread of somebdy’s. i was just wondering, why rotc is not respected at penn because i am currently in the jrotc program at francis lewis high school. this wouldn’t hurt my chances of getting in would it? i thought rotc’s were respected and i don’t know if this is true, but if you are a girl you do not go into combat right?
and if i take a third sats, penn would take the highest from each sat right? and if i took two math sat iis, they would also take the highest? woudl it look bad?

That depends on how you define combat. If you mean that you won’t go into the infantry or special forces, you are correct. If you think that you could never be shot at, you are fooling yourself.

As for ROTC being respected, it depends on the source. National polls often show that the military is the most respected profession. If you want to see the other side of the coin, there are examples on this site.

I wouldn’t say that it isn’t respected at Penn. It’s more that the liberal student body here is pretty anti-war and sometimes that can be confused with anti-military and anti-rotc.
