This Can't Be Right ("Automatic" Pre-Med Admit?)

I heard recently that students accepted to GW do not need to reach any other bar, after admission, to be accepted to their med school. (Apparently they simply transfer in?) Could someone please confirm or elaborate?

And if a student had taken no advance standing science in h.s., or otherwise showed no particular scientific interest, success in a medical program would seem doubtful to me. (Applies to a student who has offered the “automatic” admission info.) We’ve read on other threads that college-level science can be daunting for those so inclined (such as those in nursing programs) – never mind for the science novice.

There is a specific program for MD students at GWU. You apply for the 7-year BS, MD program and get your bachelors and MD in 7 years.

This is a really demanding and difficult program, and you need to have shown evidence of interest in high school by taking challenging and scientific classes and also scoring well on standardized tests.

If you want to go to medical school this program is not a necessity, it is simply a shortened process for those who already know what they want to do.

Obviously you have to maintain a high GPA to stay in the program once you’re in
