Got back from a week at the beach and found our 3 yr old Bosch dishwasher dead in the water.
Did it really miss us that much?
The cycle would start, then stop and display “E24” in the front panel. It was a bit louder than usual.
HECK, time to call our friendly local appliance repairman since we k ow NOTHING about appliance repair.
Wait, let me Google that error code. Hmmmmm. Failure to drain water. Check filters, check hose. Replace pump.
Well, could it be this solidified chicken fat in the filter blocking the drain? Let me clean that out…
Let me run some hot hot water.
YES!
No more E24, cycle goes fine!!!
I love the interweb! (Yes, I know it’s a dopey term but we like it in our family)
Real solutions to save me time and money and make me feel soooooo accomplished!
I had a similar problem with mine. I tried those same suggestions but nothing worked, so I called the Bosch customer service (it’s open til 9pm PT.) He had me check a few things, including the sprayer holes to see if they were clogged. Then he told me to get dishwasher cleaner (it’s made by Jet Dry) and run dishwasher on hottest setting. Voila!
I didn’t even know there was such a thing as dishwasher cleaner.
I use the internet all the time for PC problems. I also got Samsung to replace every part of my TV free of charge even though it was out of warranty. I forwarded them sites with complaints about my TV that were on the Internet which proved there was a defect.
Back in the late 90s, our dog got skunked. Really badly–had the creature trapped under a shed, and kept barking at it and getting sprayed–you could see the cloud out there. Really dreadful.
I searched (not googled-it didn’t exist yet) “skunk spray remedy” on the incredibly slow Netscape, and found a fantastic recipe for a solution which took the smell out of the pup. It was life-changing at the time, to know you could do that and find an answer.
I hardly ever call our “computer guy” to help us with problems in our home office. I just google the problem and almost always find the answer very quickly.
Thanks for this thread! I just used the interweb to figure out that the photos and video that I thought I had deleted from my iPhone to free up storage were actually still stored in a “recently deleted” folder on the phone. I had to open that folder and delete them a second time. BAM!
I just upgraded to Yosemite. Goodbye iphoto! That was unexpected. I thought I would have to store photos under the “photos” app on the cloud which I did NOT want to do since it would take up so much space.
I look for the iPhoto logo on my hard drive and there it is, covered by a circle with a slash through it like a “do not enter” sign. I click on and it says I need to upgrade to the latest iPhoto and it will work. Follow the link to the the app store and iPhoto says it’s “not available in the US at this time”.
???
H does a quick google search and finds many, many complaints about this. Tries a weird suggestion to drag the do-not-enter-iphoto logo to the trash (but don’t throw it out!) and then go back to your hard drive and voila, you can install it again.
Also, I finally got all the kids’ music back from middle school days off my iPhone! Go to settings, scroll down to music, and UNTOGGLE the button that says “show all music”. Then, it will only show the music that has been downloaded to this device. Goodbye, Justin Beiber and Eminem! I don’t know which of you was worse.
I’ve been having some chicken skin problem, DrGoogle found that it was Keratosis Pilaris, webmd said to do nothing, use more hand cream. My kids urged me to go see a real doctor. I did change my diet and ate more carbs, stay away from cheese, ate more vegetables like kale and 4 weeks later it’s gone.
We have an old hp laser printer that started making a soul-wrenching, high-pitched death squeal about 4 years ago. I figured it was dying and was going to chuck it, but my husband talked me into googling the problem. It turned out to be a part that needed a drop of oil. I got step-by-step instructions on how to fix it. Still going strong.
I had a problem with Keratosis Pilaris also and found a great solution thanks to the interweb. I picked up a bottle of AmLactin (very inexpensive btw. found it at Target) and the rest is history. Worked like a charm.
I just found a highly regarded local repair shop half way around the country for our D and her again car in the event that the climbing temp this afternoon isn’t an easy fluid fix. Was able to send her address, phone, and business hours.
Mr. found a quick hack of how to get almost twice the number of pages out of the black cartridge in our Brother printer. Googling the issue confirmed that someone else did it and it worked. Still using the cartridge that the printer refused to recognize in June!
Emilybee, yes, what a novel idea, dishwasher cleaner! I’m just happy I nowvknow how and why I should be cleaning that darn filter!
Impressive samsung tv replacement parts swap story…you get points for perseverance, it could not have been a short and sweet phone call for that to happen!
I’ve found some simple fixes with Google. In the past year, I’ve fixed my refrigerator by locating a control I didn’t know existed (meat drawer was freezing) and my t.v. by ordering a bulb (screen went black).
My H diagnosed the problem with our refrigerator from Googling, found a site that showed videos of how to fix it, and another that sold parts. Voila! saved a ton on paying for repair or replacing it!
Fun thread. Especially good for solving computer type issues. But also am then thankful that if it’s internet related, that I have another device (iPhone or iPad) to check out that “interweb” for the first device that is NOT working!!
Also, YouTube is your friend for visuals of many home repairs, computer repairs/issues, etc. Sometimes I prefer to SEE then READ!
Bless those individuals patient enough to create YouTube videos on how to make repairs! My husband and son use them often to take apart computers, replace laptop screens, etc.
@musicmom, yes hours spent on both the Internet and with Samsung. TV was turning off by itself. Samsung was fixing only LCD’s with that problem not plasmas. Of course once repairman came to house it was working fine and he was just packing up to leave when TV turned itself off. He. Could not find what was causing it so had to order all new parts. Haven’t had a problem since and it’s been at least 4 years.
