This is an academic success seminar?

S is on academic probation, so he’s taking an academic success seminar. This is one of his assignments, as it was posted on Blackboard [emphasis added]:

I wonder if they’re going to cover proofreading or grammar? Nobody’s perfect, and an occasional typo isn’t the end of the world, but this is ridiculous!

Wow. Just wow.

He ought to write about how he used to have a problem with time management because he spent too much time spellchecking. Instead, he’s going to replace that bad habit with the good habit of increasing his typing speed and avoiding the spellchecker altogether. ;)

Who is teaching this seminar? I agree, ridiculous. Also a little scary!

Is the seminar leader from a foreign country? Or maybe it is a trick–to get kids to read the stuff on the board.

I get the feeling that the person who wrote that may be a foreign born instuctor, or it was written that way as an instructional aid to reread what you write.

The seminar is being taught by the Assistant Dean of Academic Services. She has a very American name, so I doubt that she’s foreign.

Needless to say, I’m becoming less impressed with this college every day…
