This is probably a dumb question...

My son is currently filling out boarding school applications; he will be a freshman next year. Under “Academic Awards,” he has included the fact that he has earned “high honors” for every marking term since the 5th grade (first grade that honors at his school are awarded). High honors apply to a GPA of 3.75 or better, but he actually has the equivalent of 4.1 or better for each year. So…should he list his year-end GPA for each grade? Would schools prefer a cumulative GPA? Will schools consider this to be redundant information, since all of this will show up on his transcript anyway? Furthermore, his current school works on a 12.0 system (12.0=A+). Does he need to explain what the equivalent is on a 4.33 system (A+) or is that just insulting?

Between the school report and the transcript, this is covered. It will be clear he has good grades. Move on. Good grades are not a hook.

Thanks for the advice. I’ll pass it along.
