Astronomy is awesome. I know I’m probably thinking way ahead of our time but I would like to study the subterranean oceans on Europa and Ganymede (Jupiter’s moons), and compare them with Earth’s oceans (comparative oceanography, if you will) which is why I want to double major in Astronomy and Geology.

But seriously, awesome picture, it’s the new background on my computer.

Well, as 3rd year astrophysics major at Berkeley I certainly see where you’re coming from. Realize though that if you major in astronomy you really won’t be taking those kind of images, that’s more astophotography (and I’m sure you know that).

I remember the first time that I saw objects like the Andromeda Galaxy, the Orion Nebula, Jupiter’s cloud belts and Saturn’s rings through a good telescope. I’ve been hooked ever since. Amazing stuff . . .

word, OP. APOD was the reason I got into astronomy in HS and am still doing it as a hobby right now.
but you realise it’s a just a beautiful composite :P
