This may be a silly question for me to ask BUT

One of the sections of the Common App says to "Briefly list any academic distinctions or honors you have received since the 9th grade or international equivalent (e.g., National Merit, Cum Laude Society)."

Is a stipend considered an award? I have received a stipend last year for an internship I did at a university, and will be receiving another one this year. However, both stipends were given through a program. So would I be able to put this down as an award of some sort, or no?

I don't think so. It's more of a salary than an award.

If you write about the internship in the EC/WE section, I think you can add that you received a stipend there.

Dear forblueskies:

Nne718 is right. A stipend is like a payment and not an award. You can talk about the internship and how you benefited/ what you learned from it in your personal statement; but you can not use it as an award.
