I’m an 18 year old male and I’m beginning my second year at college. During high school I avoided relationships, not only because I felt that neither of us would be emotionally mature enough to develop a lasting bond, but also because I knew I’d be leaving for college before long.

Now I’m in college and believe myself to be ready, but the problem is I’ve found myself pretty much incompatible with most of the women here. I’m a rather liberal person, socially and economically, but I absolutely HATE drinking, partying, debauchery, sports, basically anything fun. However, it seems like all the women I’ve met who aren’t into these are crazy, neoconservative Christians who make me want to tear my hair out whenever I discuss anything related to society or politics.

How am I going to get around this? Do I need to lose some of my inhibitions and start acting like an idiot for the liberal ones or lose all my political convictions and complain about homosexuals all day for the conservative ones?

Bear, how can you hate anything fun? Movie going, amusement parks, vacations, these are all fun, yet you hate them? I think you should write down on paper what is it that seems most important to you because I can’t help. Try going to a psychologist and see what’s up with them. Other than that, you sound like a 40 year old politician debating about society’s issues. You’re too harsh on yourself; go see someone you can talk to.

Some of the things that I find fun include knock knock jokes, communist party rhetoric from the 40’s and prior, and awful music, all for their ironic value, and whenever I exhibit these particular passions around women they either look at me like I’m crazy, want to be friends and nothing more, or punch me in the face if they don’t get the sarcasm. That’s what I find fun, and apparently it’s not “sexy” or even remotely interesting. Not that I expect knock knock jokes to be funny, but the things that interest me seem to repel everyone else except other strange guys, which really doesn’t help me.

they’re talking about activities…you can’t expect to fstart a relationship based on knock -knock jokes…where would you take her to have fun? A communisty party meeting?..

It’s AMAZING! All of that “death to the capitalist pig dog” shenanigans and promises of a common man’s utopia (when 20 million or so common people were being systematically liquidated) just tickles me pink. The rhetoric, not the mass murder.

You can’t except to find somebody who’s a perfect carbon copy of you. But you can date college women and see if there is anybody who you can connect with. Why can’t you date a woman who enjoys sports, without enjoying it yourself? Why can’t you date a Republican woman, without becoming one?

“Why can’t you date a woman who enjoys sports, without enjoying it yourself? Why can’t you date a Republican woman, without becoming one?”

I’m not necessarily opposed to that in itself, but isn’t it necessary to have some sort of connection or something in common? I heard a joke recently:

Why did the chicken coop have two doors?
Because if it had four it’d be a chicken sedan.

That made me happier than just about anything that’s happened to me in the past month. What is the launch point for someone to whom “chicken sedan” is his greatest joy?

“you’re kidding right? you don’t do anything um…normal? for fun?”

I do plenty of normal things, but they’re mostly things you do alone (I’m not alluding to masturbation), like television, music, walks, etc. but in order for you to do those things with someone else you need to do something to ingratiate yourself with them, which I basically can’t. I made friends in high school through my interaction with other friends, but I really don’t know very many people here so I can’t do that. Plus it’s summer school and everyone’s gone. Jerks.

Oh, and I don’t know how to do quotes because I suck.
