This Season's Amazing Race

Did anyone else catch this last night? They have some great teams this year, I think I may root for the poker playing ladies and the gay brothers. I felt bad for the yoga couple that got eliminated before they started, what a bummer to be selected for the show and then not even get to the first destination!

You know those little captions they put under each couple so you can quickly identify them, “best friends”, or “poker players” or “Harlem Globe Trotters”? My husband was asking what caption we would get and I said, “married 31 years” and he was a little put off that our most notable quality would simply be staying married. What would your amazing race caption be? I thought that sounded more attractive then engineer and faux librarian.

Why would you root for the poker players? Tiffany Michelle even has bad manners at the poker table.

I like the poker girls as well. I enjoy a team or person on any reality show that is a little on the devious side. I couldn’t believe the size of those wasabi bombs, I wanted to gag just watching them eat them!

I was thinking last night that it would be cool to try The Amazing Race with my daughter, because she is absolutely unflappable in the face of difficult travel situations. (I am not.) Then I thought that if my kids did it together they might actually win–they’re both ingenious as all get out.

I watched but I haven’t figured out which team to root for yet. I usually take a few weeks until I really feel like I know them. Of course, Lance is going to be the obnoxious overbearing guy we all hate. Seems like there is one of those every season.
My DD had a travel snafu this weekend. Missed a train with no other trains leaving from that spot that night. She called me after it was over and told me “duh I asked a cop…I learned that from you.” That’s my girl!

Wondering what kind of law the “lawyer” practices. He was so rude to his partner (wife?). I wanted them eliminated instead of yoga couple.

I also watched last night. I haven’t figured out who I am rooting for but I have figured out who I am ready to see go next.
Not sure of his name. (might be Lance). The lawyer who looks like he is on steroids. I always find it interesting when you see smart woman with men who are so obviously jerks.

This is the one show I insist on watching when it is actually on (no DVR’ing)!

The first hour was awesome and intense!

First impressions:
Dislike: Poker players, Lawyer dude

Like: Harlem Globetrotters (great attitude!), Gay brothers.

I also thought the woman in the older dating couple was kind of funny and quirky- she just seemed to be thrilled to be on the race!

I loved the Asperger’s guy and his buddy. I think they both are willing to try it, knowing it may not go well for them. I also loved the Globetrotter guys. He ate that wasabi in two bites!

We LOVE The Amazing Race. DD and DS can’t wait to be old enough to try out for the show. So far this season, I like Farmer and Son (loved how Son herded the ducks), Harlem Globetrotters, Meghan/Cheyne, and Brian/Ericka. Can’t stand Lance (isn’t that why he is in the race?!) and Marcy is driving me crazy (enough with the perky, already). Also liked how Asperger herded his ducks. (Can we now call him the Duck Whisperer?)

Love the show! We like Farmer and son, Globetrotters, Asperger guy and friend and the older couple with the funny woman. Also liked the gay brothers.

I thought the show was great… really liked several of the teams - and even evil Lance isn’t bad enough to make me stop watching (unlike survivor)…

I don’t watch this show (I hate shows where they make people eat stuff), but I had to look up the Asperger’s guy. His on-line bio says he is intensely competitive. That is unusual…

kathiep: we’d be “married 30 years”, but would probably soon be known as the bickering couple.

It usually takes me a few episodes to pick a favorite, but i also like the gay brothers, the “chicken whisperer” & his friend, the Globetrotters, & Brian/Erica. DS called during the episode, so I missed some of the Tokyo exploits.

I dont watch the show but it happened to be on last night and I did watch some of the intros. I thought it was very cool that they had 2 guys from the Harlem Globetrotters and I would watch the show if I knew they would be doing some b-ball tricks.

I hope to maintain interest in it over the season but I haven’t been able to in the last few seasons. For me, the producers have ruined these shows by trying to cast them with all the usual suspects - the nasty husband, the whiney people, the rude people, the standard or unusual disabilities, the hippies, the quirky older couple, the military veteran, etc. etc. The casts are obviously coached to fall into which ever category for which they are picked so they just come off as obnoxious. It has ruined Survivor and I’m afraid is ruining Amazing Race. The casts are caricatures of former casts.

Big fan here. For several seasons I have been hoping that a two-women team win the race. I don’t believe that has happened. Last night I didn’t warm up to the poker players.

Not to change the topic of the thread, but I’d love to see a celebrity edition or (though I know many people didn’t like it) another Family Edition. I’m not too picky. :)

I didn’t like the family edition. If I remember correctly, the families had all different ages of kids and the challenges didn’t seem quite fair because of that.

It’s my favorite show as I love to travel and see various places. I thought of auditioning in my area but I’m too old and I would never bungee etc. My son is 18 and he would have been a super partner to have. What’s always amazing is how a lot of teams misread the clues or don’t bother to get the best flights.

I’d love to see an International race made up of top teams from the world over.
