Hey guys, I have recently transferred from a Tier 3 state school to a LAC Tier 1 school that is pretty popular on this site (I won’t be dropping names). I’m VERY excited to be here and I love every bit of it! I am a Physics and Math double major and I really hope to keep this plan my remaining 3 years here.

However, I’m completely overburdened by this semester. My first week of classes started and I am extremely nervous about my current and future performance in this school.

Here is my schedule:

Multivariable Calculus I*
Principles of Physics II I*
Music Theory I (at my school, there is a pre req class to this but I tested out of it with the limited knowledge of Theory I got learning guitar.
Elementary German I I*

Music Theory, Physics II, and German all have labs but I am not worried too much.

From this first week of school, I feel like everyone is just on this completely different level than me when it comes to learning in classes. Things here are a LOT faster than my old school and adjusting is very hard at the moment. My fellow students, on the other hand, are easily acclimated to this, and seem to have zero problem understanding anything the teacher says. An example to this is in my Calculus III class I seem to be the only one that is lost in regards to viewing graphs in three dimensions and the basic math behind it. I am also afraid to ask questions in any class due to being labeled “stupid” or “dumb”.

This is especially apparent in my German class, where after the first day there will almost always be no English spoken in the class. I have never taken German before and I have noticed I require the most “push” to get through basic speaking due to the fact that I forget very easily what is going on in the class and cannot commit it to memory easily on the spot. I really want to succeed, but I feel I give the wrong impression as being brain dead.

Music Theory is one thing since I skipped the pre-req I will be fairly lost for the first two weeks. I am a little lost here, but I feel this is the most manageable except for the terms which I am trying to learn. I still feel fairly incompetent when I ask after class for clarification due to terms being completely alien and confusing to me. Lastly, in my Physics class we are doing basic charges and the main reason I feel I am “lost” is because the Mechanics class I took one year ago did not stress vectors too much and I have to relearn it. These two classes are the least “headache” for me.I will be going to my teachers for office hours next week fairly often I think but I feel like I am the only person in the school that feels so overwhelmed in any of these classes.

I also want to mention that I have a moderate to severe ADD(my mom actually made me see three psychologists to full verify this) and will be going my school’s Disabilities office soon to talk about this. Does anyone here on CC know how this will affect my classes?
My other questions are, is it really that normal to feel the need to study profusely? Other students (keyword)seem to get by doing nothing or studying like 2-4 hours a week max to get Bs and As. I feel like if I need to study a LOT I’m just not cut out for the workload.

Thanks in advance for any replies and hopefully understanding my college blues :)
