“I wanted a big school with a strong football team.”

And she picked Kansas? Good for her to have many choices, but Kansas has not been known for football in a long time. I know ultimately choosing a college should not be based only on the football team (unless you are a football recruit), but I thought it was funny they chose to include that quote and then she picks Kansas.

lmao kansas is known for having one of the WORST football teams in ncaaf d1 FBS

Maybe she’s from NJ and was comparing it to Rutgers! LOL

To me the bottom line here is that there are schools that are a good fit for a B student with 980 on the SAT. We need to keep in mind that the straight A students that we keep hearing about on CC are not normal. There are lots of normal students out there and there are lots of good schools for them to choose from.

Perhaps the other lesson here is that she started off with the notion that she wanted a large school with a strong football team. However, after visiting a few schools, she ended up at a school that felt like a better fit for her.

Good for her. I think that she did things right. Hopefully she will do well at U of Kansas.

The article does not mention finances (or if it does I missed it). Hopefully she picked a school that is affordable for her and her family.

I loved this profile for showing that the kid who is middle-of-the-pack academically also has (1) something to offer and (2) choices. I have a close relative who had similar stats “back in the day.” He went to Big State U, graduated with a GPA probably in the mid-twos, worked for a couple of years and then went to Regional State U for nursing school. Worked in nursing for many years before returning to his original Big State U for an NP degree. He was working and had three kids while he commuted to Big State U but still graduated with a near-4.0 average and got the first NP job for which he applied. He has always been employed, and I don’t think he’s ever not been offered a job for which he applied. There are many paths to success.

Kansas has a lot of spirit and fun with Basketball games though.

I had this SAT score back IN THE DAY lol went to Villanova 1996 fresh off their big win. I was a solid high B average student accepted into the nursing program coming from the South. I remember my mother telling me that we were having an interview with the dean of the nursing school to show our interest—pack your bag. She went to Georgetown for nursing and knew I was never getting in there. I took 2 SAT prep courses and never could break 1000. I did just fine at Nova.

I think she just picked one randomly.
