This Week is saved: Amanpour "promoted"

None too soon! The new “This Week” was an absolute disaster with Christiane Amanpour.

Yes - she was terrible. George was significantly better on the show.

Yes! There is a God! lol

Now I can watch and enjoy the show again.

I like Sunday talking-heads shows. I don’t think I’ve seen more than 15 minutes of This Week with Christiane Amanpour.

I like George Stephanopoulos. I never understood moving him to GMA. I want to know what he has to say about White House insiders and heavy-hitters on the Hill. I don’t really care very much what he has to say about stir-fry cooking.

It never made any sense to bring in someone like Christiane Amanpour to host a show that focuses on Washington politics. Her “version” of foreign coverage and personal idiosyncracies made the show hard to watch. The worst part is how she tried to overwhelm the regulars voices such as George Will’s.

It was obvious that she functioned better in a news environment that repeats the same crap every twenty minutes in the hope viewers might understand it the tenth time it is aired.

At least someone undid the mistake.

Honest to God, this makes my night, xiggi! Just yesterday, my whole family was saying that we wish he’d come back. He was so good. After Tim Russert died, George became our go-to guy.

I can’t wait to tell everyone when they wake up.

Hmmm.

I had no idea Amanpour was so despised!!!

George is O.K., but he seems to be lightest of the talking-head hosts. No, I don’t mean that he’s not bright. He’s supersharp, but I have not ever enjoyed his interviews. And I didn’t care for his handling of the debate last week. Maybe GMA was dumbing him down. There’s just no more Charles Gibsons in the wings at ABC News. And why they dumped Sam Donaldson and Cokie Roberts is beyond me, although Sam retired voluntarily I guess. I haven’t watched the show regularly in years. For me, the best thing it had going for it was George Will, whom I typically do not agree with. And the arguments between George Will and Fareek Zakaria were stimulating. They really ought to try to give Will more minutes, if not a feature of his own.

As for Amanpour, I can take her or leave her.

ThiS week was not the best format for her. She is much smarter and tougher then the two Georges. She gets the interviews. Don’t remember seeing either of the boys in a war zone. They ask light weight questions. She is fabulous and I hope they find the right format for her.

I agree, Seahorses, Amanpour is top notch. I haven’t watched This Week at all so cannot offer an opinion in that context, but for reporting from war zones and other tough stages she brings a depth of intelligence and gravitas (see, it’s not true that women can’t project it) that is reassuring (and certaily refreshing!) about the adequacy of coverage for major international news events.

What “personal idiosyncracies” does she show, I wonder.

I think she doesn’t take any garbage and shows her frustration with dolts. George s is eh, a weak reporter, doesn’t do his homework and has a narrow focus. George w is condescending.

Her interviews in egypt were amazing. She knows her stuff, researches well, is incredibly smart, and sees both the large and small picture.

I miss that mullet hair cut she used to have. It used to crack me us every time I listened to her accent.

What is wrong with her accent? She may have picked it up at her British boarding school and it much more pleasant sounding to me than the hard, shallow tones I hear coming from the mouths of our homegrown ‘talent’.

I like Christiane Amanpour. Didn’t realize she engendered so much hate. Ah well, haters gotta hate, I suppose.

I also like Anderson Cooper, so there you have it - the Ridiculist cracks me up. I love Stephen Colbert’s description of AC as a “shiny new penny.”

OMG – Anderson Cooper! Strange albino looking man with no brain. Never understood the appeal whatsoever.

Amnapour – she’s just always angry and worried and often for no discernible reason.

We don’t really turn on these shows anymore. We just read three papers.

I just love how people who come to the defense of C.A. qualify their opinion with an admission to never or hardly watch This Week! If you liked her so much, why did you not watch her show?

I hope you realize that some of us can recognize that she was better suited for a different platform and might have excelled in the CNN family, but still came close to destroy a show that many enjoyed.

In the end, This Week goes back to its original format, and the C.A. fans can follow her on her platform and admire her intelligence and grit. Isn’t that a wonderful outcome that should make everyone happy? And, as I wrote earlier, not a darn day too soon! :)

She has the exact same birthday as me. We share the day with Howard Stern and Rush Limbaugh but they are older. I never watched her show although I do catch the news shows on Bloomberg Radio on Sundays when I am out running errands. I thought she was fine.

I will acknowledge shows may be different if you are just listening and not watching.

I feel she was wasted on he show. She still seems to me to be cut from the old journalist vien-go to dangerous place, uncover story, tie it together from a natuiona/international perspective. She is smart, not likeable.

She is brilliant. I actually watch the show and love her. sometimes I think the show has been a bit "light " though. It might not be her but what she has been told to say.

I don’t hate her, but she never seemed comfortable in the format. I was hoping for Jake Tapper to replace Georgie Boy. I could see Katie Couric scooting into that spot, though I think she’s being groomed to replace Barbara Walters, who seems increasingly frailer and out of touch.
