This would be a good day to drop a V-Day card in the mailbox to your kid

Over the weekend, I was talking with my 23-year-old niece who’s now out in the greater world and for some reason she said, “Aunt Southern Hope, I never mentioned this to you before but those valentine’s day cards that you sent to my dorm were sometimes the best/only good thing that happened to me on February 14.” And that made me kind of sad…kind of happy…i don’t know…but in any case, I now send paper valentine cards to both my kids currently in college (its still fun to see a letter in the dorm mailbox) and although they roll their eyes now, I believe they like it!

Chocolates already shipped to mine. But I agree about the cards. My mom sent me one every year from when I went to college until she couldn’t do so any more at the age of 85.

I am heading out to get a V-card. Never sent my kid a card on V day. I didn’t think it was a thing to do.

We’ve always sent/given DS a card and sometimes candy. This year I sent him a couple of Lou Malnati’s pizzas.

So right! Mailing tomorrow!

Because of this thread, went to CVS and bought the kids’ favorite treat, li hing gummy worms which happened to be unmarked 50% off sale. Got them 3 bags apiece because of the darn sale. Put it into a small flat rate box with a computer-made card that H & I wrote in and sent it off. It’s supposed to arrive around 2/12!

Does this count against the spending freeze? Hope not—it was purposeful and a gift for the kids. Did write on the cards for them to brush their teeth!
