For $49.95, they can create a beach towel out of any photograph with the image permanently woven into the towel. I can think of lots of possible photos that a kid heading off to college would love – the family pet, a group photo of the student with his/her best friends, the BF or GF (although the towel will probably last longer than the relationship ;)), a treasured vacation photo.

Besides graduation, it would make a great gift for any occasion for the person who has everything.

Oh my that is so excellent!! My son can’t take his motorcycle to college with him, but he COULD take a towel with a picture of it! I wish I’d seen this a month ago, now it won’t be here in time… but we can give him an envelope with a “you’re getting another present later” promise in it. Thanks!

My wife had a good idea for a small gift for a person we know going off to Georgetown: A SmarTrip farecard (plastic, rechargeable version of the paper cards) for the Metro and a tourist/Metro map of DC. The card comes with $25 on it. They were both ordered from the Washington Transit Authority website.

I guess it’s probably too late for YAGG thread (Yet Another Graduation Gift).

The towel idea is really neat. Thanks for sharing that! Now there’s a way for DS to take his cat along to his dorm room.

I keep seeing or thinking of fun/useful gifts I’d love to order for S that would be too late to give at graduation. But I figure some can be hidden in the stuff carted to school in August and tucked into the back of a drawer, etc, for him to find later. Others could be saved and sent later in care packages. My sister took a small package with her when they moved her oldest into her freshman dorm and gave it to the folks at the campus mail center before they left so my niece would have “mail” the first time she checked her mailbox.

There are also photo blankets! I actually have one of these with a picture of all six of my kids on it (and their names printed too). It is really a cool thing! These can be kind of pricey, but I got mine from eBay, and it was extremely reasonable. I think that either a towel or a blanket would make a wonderful gift for a kiddo heading off to college! Good suggestion! :)
