In order be a thon dancer and really be involved in ton fully do you have to be in a soroity or fraternity? or are there other thon dance groups you can join?

Oh my gosh no, thon is not a sorority/frat thing! It’s a penn state thing, anyone can participate in some way or form, even dancing [though I’m sure it’s probably competitive to get a spot on the actual floor]! I think you have to be in a club/organization that participates in it in order to have a chance on the floor; I’m not sure which ones do/don’t but obviously a lot do since it’s such a big school. It’ not just frats/sororities. More power to ya for that; I’m sure it’s both a rush and incredibly exhausting!

You can even be an independant dancer! (i.e. you don’t have to even belong to an org to dance) You just have to raise a certain amount of money. And, in the same way, the number of dancers orgs are able to have is based on the amount of money they raise. Because of that, it might be hard to dance in your first or second year because the orgs will probably tend to choose upperclassmen in the org for it. By the way, you don’t have to be an actual dancer to dance! Anyone can do it!
In addition, there are so many other ways to get involved in Thon. Morale, Rules and Regs, Merch… I’m sure there are way more. Many freshmen choose to participate in these committees. They are very involved, too. For morale at least, I think you are on the floor in 4 hour shifts (4 hours on, 4 off). From what I’ve heard, its very fun!
