Thoughts on College Options

So as the decision letters are just about finished up coming in, I thought I’d just post the places I got into and see if anyone had any thoughts on my options. Obviously I’m not going to pick my college based on a college confidential post but just interested to hear what people think of my options for someone who is going into college undecided on a major with really no idea what I will decide to do. I received money from some of these schools but since money is not an issue, I won’t include that info. My options right now are:

University of Pittsburgh
College of William & Mary
St. Olaf
Washington University in St. Louis
Davidson College

What do you guys think? I got a lot of rejects/wait lists but I’m still very happy with my options. Interested to hear any thoughts on any of these schools. I will definitely be attending the accepted student days for as many of them as I can.

Thanks!

Reputation-wise, I think WUSTL is the obvious choice. All of them are similar in environment, size and climate (except for UPitt), so I guess if I were you I’d go there.

Good luck!

Congratulations! Those are five really great schools. I agree with undecidedac96 that WUSTL probably has the most prestige, though I think Davidson has a similar reputation as well. However, I think it’s great that you’re not going to pick your school just based off prestige. I actually think these schools are all pretty different. The best one for you is the one that you feel like you belong at, not the one that other people think is a better school.

What are your goals and general preferences. I’m not sure where people are saying that these choices are the same.

Yeah I was wrong. For some reason I confused W&M with Washington and Lee! So I figured it was a small prestigious LAC like St. Olaf and Davidson. :lol;

@kmart19 - Great school! Any thoughts on what you might want to study? How would you describe yourself? What are your nonacademic interests/hobbies/ECs?

@doschicos‌ maybe something in science but honestly no idea. Would any of these schools be particularly good/bad for going in completely undecided?
I’m slightly introverted…not too extreme though. I like basketball, baseball, football, (though I wouldn’t play on a varsity team in college) and I just like hanging out with friends, seeing movies and stuff (I know, I’m a real interesting guy…lol)

@undecidedac96‌ @lalalemma‌ would I be dumb to consider the others when I got into WashU and Davidson? I feel like these two are the most highly regarded by a decent amount. I guess W&M is up there as well. It’s really hard for me to decide which is the best fit based on just a one day visit…I’m hoping to go to some of the accepted student days but I don’t have time to get to all of them…uggggh

Based on overall academics, campus, diversity, endowment, Davidson and WashU are definitely the strongest. W&M is a good school but not as strong as the other two, and being a state school it lacks the diversity of the other schools with at least 70% being Virginia students. To me, college should be partially about stretching yourself and experiencing new things, new thoughts and new people.

I think its perfectly fine to go in undecided and explore different academic areas. There are so many different areas that you don’t get exposed to in high school. A small liberal arts college like Davidson could be plus in that area.

Go to Wash U in St. Louis. That is the best school on your list by far. I would have to say W&M is definitely second from it. Based on prestige WUSTL is the obvious choice.

@doschicos‌ ok that’s what I was thinking. I think that I have decided that I would rather go to WashU than W&M based on my visits and also the locations (I’m in IL, W&M has a 70% Virginia population), so I’m going to cross that one off my list. I’m going to see what I can do to go to the admitted students day of the other 4 and see what I think, although I’m leaning toward WashU at this point.

@kmart19 - Sounds like a good plan. It’s nice to have the great options you do. Visits are ideal if you can swing it.
