I’d speculate that the wealthy in NYC probably own more than one property, maybe even one or more in Texas.
How does DC make it to top 10? What is their industry? Lobbying? Politicking? It should alarm us all when governing becomes a big money making industry.
You mean concentrated wealth versus income. There appear to be more millionaires and billionaires stepping over the homeless in CA.
In these VA locations the average person makes more money AND pays less for gas(less in taxes, likely less for food, or for housing). A rising tide lifts all boats.
I don’t believe local gas stations set their prices by a billionaire census. Honestly, if EV adoption is so high in CA, why aren’t gas prices dropping due to less demand?
I am a big fan of oatmeal and have it most days I am at home. I use an instant pot to make it and it is great.
I always used Quaker as they seem to have the least amount of “husks” in their oatmeal. Recently, I read there is some sort of chemical present in many oatmeal brands so I switched to the Whole Foods 365 brand as supposedly they had much less of the chemical.
This thread stayed with me yesterday when I went to get gas. Three stations at the same freeway exit. The one I went to was 4.90, the one across the street was 5.09, the one 1/2 block down across from the high school was $6.09.
I know of at least 3 extremely wealthy individuals who live in multi million dollar homes, drive expensive cars but make their income in Texas.
Also yesterday in front of Smart and Final parked, 4 Teslas, a Lucid and an electric Ioniq.
As irritating as it may be to Californians, I actually pay attention to online products I order that say “cannot be sold in California” - I actually move on from those.
I posted an explanation of CA gas prices above.
And I believe that the gas stations here price their product partially based on the wealth (or lack of). I’ve known some managers and owners of gas stations in my life.
Understand, but sometimes the drawn line is arbitrary. One of my favorite LED bulbs (GE) missed the revised State efficiency cut by literally 1%. (When the bulbs were originally designed, they met the state standard but the regulators tweaked teh standard upward, just bcos…)
I don’t eat highly processed food, like cereals, and I stopped eating Quaker oatmeal a long time ago because of the issues linked above.
I purchase Trader Joe’s, Bob’s Red Mill, etc. from Amazon.
Oh those are an odd lot. I’ve had to have a few things sent to our business office in a less ‘it causes cancer and kills all living things’ State.
Things like
A certain black licorice candy
Incandescent bulbs
an ionizer
I’ve learned that sometimes products cannot be fulfilled by Amazon to ship to California, but a third party seller can do so. I ran into that when buying shower curtain rings.
The study found chlormequat levels in US oat products that were 100 to 1000x below the EPA limit and 10x lower than UK oat products. There have been no studies showing that this level can cause negative effects in humans. However, the author of the study notes that there have been some studies showing negative effects in animals at below the EPA limit (inconsistent results). It’s also worthwhile to note that 97% of chlormequat leaves the body within 24 hours, yet chlormequat was still found in 80% of the human test subjects. This suggests that there are numerous sources of chlormequat in diet beyond just the oat and wheat products that were reviewed.
In my opinion, this reads more like news agencies trying to create a panic to increase clicks/viewers/profit, rather than a legitimate cause for a panic. However, I can understand why others may choose to favor organic oats and/or oats that were not imported from Canada, particularly if pregnant.
Wait, what’s wrong with Quaker Oats? I just bought two large containers of it.
Shopping for food can get scary sometimes. I want to keep prices down, but that also means suppliers and retailers are sacrificing quality. I won’t mention any names…WALMART! Oops…did I say that out loud? HEB down here in Texas seems to have a good balance of price and quality. Knock on wood! Wait…wood is expensive too.
Got Tom’s toothpaste today. The box it came in was the size I am used to but the tube it self shrunk so much. At first it felt like a travel size.
We got the financial aid package back under the “new” FAFSA rules. We get a total of zero financial aid. Since ALL of our costs went up, it’s impossible to send our college bound daughter to the school she had her heart set on. Talk about getting the middle finger!
I heard Aldi is dropping some of their prices.
I’ve decided to go through the streaming services we have and begin unsubscribing. Prices keep going up while shows get worse. Apple TV has good shows, but they have me waiting up to 3 years between seasons…and they nearly doubled their price. I cancelled Disney Plus after they nearly doubled their price…and released Loki. What a mess THAT last season was. The amount of money we’re paying for streaming more than equals what we were paying for cable years back. It’s not worth it.
Good news…we found a way to make college work for our daughter.
Well…I still ordered my shower curtain rod. Figured i wasn’t going to eat enough of it to cause cancer. Yes, it came with a warning.
