Thoughts on OSU Aerospace Engineering?

I’m in-state and was recently admitted into pre-aerospace engineering! I was born a Buckeye, but to be honest the general and engineering tours weren’t really great, especially compared to some other schools.

I was hoping to learn more about aerospace engineering:

  • Facilities - I just saw the one undergrad wind tunnel, and that’s only because I asked about it.
  • Faculty - Are they good teachers? Are they approachable and involved?
  • Research Opportunities - Any chance for undergraduate research?
  • Internship Opportunities (especially Astronautics) - I was fortunate enough to be selected for two year-long internships in high school for one of the leading aerospace agencies. Space is my passion, so I’m hoping this will give me a leg up.
  • Support - Do engineering students feel supported when trying to get into a non-direct-admit major, or do they try to weed them out?

I’d appreciate any feedback! Thanks!

At most schools, you’ll find your internship and job. OSU has a great rep overall.

Here’s the career table - I have it set to Aero and Aviation Engineering but you may need to redo.

In general, most ABET programs will be fine - and MechE will be fine as well if a school doesn’t have aero.

If you’re really into aero, look at schools like UAH (surrounded by aero/defense companies) and Embry Riddle and Florida Tech which are aero specialized.

But OSU is a great school.

You might ask the engineering school for a student or two that you can speak with (a student ambassador, etc.).

Best of luck.
