<p>Although I am in no way attempting to justify this girl, I find it ridiculous how much attention she received from the media and the general public. The Chancellor set out an email about her on March 14, not until March 16 did he finally decide to address the tragedy in Japan. Does one UCLA girls opinion (which may ‘slightly’ tarnish the schools reputation) hold precedence over the thousands of deaths from the disaster? I hope not, but apparently for the Chancellor it takes UCLA involvement in order to address a much more serious issue. </p>
<p>Also in regards to all the time spent threatening this girl, creating ‘response videos’ about her, and even the news coverage I saw about her, wouldn’t it be better to direct the time and efforts used in all of that to bring direct attention to the tragedy and not to one girl’s opinion. </p>
<p>Its just disappointing thinking that some people (especially fellow Bruins) are really sitting behind a computer harassing some racist girl who mentions the Tsunami when chances are they havent spent nearly as much time raising funds/awareness/support for the relief efforts. </p>
<p>Like I said, Im just really disappointed with how our Chancellor, our fellow Bruins, and our Media addressed this situation. Although I am not trying to argue that she should go unpunished or completely ignored, I just feel that the attention belongs somewhere else at this time. This has been on my mind since I first saw her video on the Channel 9 news and maybe I’m in the minority with my view but its nice being able to tell some strangers how I feel.</p>
