Thoughts on: West Chester U, Philadelphia U, Rider U, and Rutgers-Camden

Hey guys, I’ve been trying to find information on the 4 listed universities:
Rutgers - Camden
Philadelphia University
Rider University
West Chester U
Does anybody have any particular positive or negative feelings on these? I’m going for a BS in Finance. The few people I’ve talked to about PhilaU seem to say it’s a pretty worthless school, and Rider seems a bit expensive for a no-name school. Anyways, any input is appreciated!

did you consider Temple U, have a good business program Fox Business
College of NJ [TCNJ] highly rated
both schools are state schools so tuition is less better than the ones you listed for finance

Temple is already on my list, I was just curious whether people had particular feelings on those 4 schools because I don’t see a lot of more recent threads about them

Just for anybody’s benefit who might stumble across this thread later: a user reached out through PM and let me know:

West Chester isnt accredited for business. Neither is Philadelphia U

Ummm what does not accredited for business mean? Both Wcu & Philly u have fine business programs. Are you in state or out? That’ll make a difference at WCU. Sorry you did exactly say business. I’d say Villanova for finance.

Finance is under the business umbrella so i think for graduate schools to take you seriously you need to go to a school with AACSB accreditation.

“for graduate schools to take you seriously”

Graduate schools in finance? Most people in this area, if they go to grad school at all, get MBAs. You do not need any business degree at all to get an MBA.

I might be applying to grad school to get a different degree.

AACSB accreditation is valuable for anything under the business blanket: so Finance, Mgmt, Accounting, International Business, etc.

I think I’d worry less about a school’s accreditation and be concerned about is it an area I’d like to attend college? Am I qualified and is it financially attainable.

That’s all you buddy. I worry about a schools accreditation because it means it’s more likely that the curriculum there is strong, that the school will be taken seriously by graduate schools or potential employers. I’ve already got Drexel, Temple, and Villanova on my list for Philly schools so I can skip adding any worse schools.

@Ducky312 AACSB accredition is very important for recruiting and in 17 states and rising is a prerequisite for becoming a CPA. So clearly it is not the trivial matter you think it is.

You are more worried about the location of the school?

accreditation absolutely is important. Of the schools listed villanova is the top ranked b school. However for the money TCNJ is a great choice. Both are very highly ranked, recruited and competitive the others mentioned are not in the same category.

I’ll take a look at TCNJ for sure, but I can see that I should probably disregard these 4 schools even as back up

Rutgers New Brunswick?

On my list already

All are rather weak on the academic side of things, tbh.

Thanks for the answer!

Philadelphia University is merging with Jefferson, if you are going to apply you might want to find out more about that. Rutgers-Camden might be okay if you are guaranteed a spot at New Brunswick in your third year.

Are you looking for a safety? If you have the stars to seriously consider Villanova, then you might want to research Loyola MD. Excellent B school. It’s expensive but not as high as Drexel. St. Joe’s might be worth a look as well if finances aren’t a big concern (although they do offer some nice merit awards, as does Loyola).

WCU is actually a pretty good school but is best known for education and music. I don’t know how strong the business curriculum is.
