@texaspg and @WayOutWestMom : Should she still apply to more schools, including DO schools? Or is it too late now?
If she has 5 interviews already, Iâd lean toward no.
Realistically, itâs too late to apply to more MD programs anyway.
DO schools have later deadlines, but does she subscribe to the DO philosophy and does she have DO exposure?
Osteopathic med schools sometimes require a DO recommendation letter.
And all DO schools ask some variant on the question of why DO [instead of MD]?) She needs a really good answer for that.
She didnât plan on applying to DO schools, so she has no DO exposure, no DO letter, and no prepared answer for âWhy DO?â Realistically, that means applying this late in the cycle isnât a viable option?
Then no, DO really isnât a viable option for her right now. I mean if she really, really, really wants to she can throw few DO applications in at schools that donât require a DO letter just to see what happensâŠbut why? More time, more money, more stress.
If she had zero interviews, Iâd say applying DO might make sense. But she has 5 interviewsâŠ.
If you daughter fails to gain acceptance during the current application cycle, she should work on getting some DO shadowing and do some reading about the osteopathic philosophy of medicine. Sheâll then be ready to try DO schools as part of her 3rd round of med school apps.
Can I message you with more questions?
When is your daughterâs first interview, and how long after the interview will she hear the admission result?
She is fortunate that she already went through an interview, but these can take different formats. Does she know which formats the schools are using? I donât recall the names, but @WayOutWestMom probably knows.
5 interviews is good and if she applied to 32, the odds are there will be more.
I assume she applied well and is competitive where she applied. 32 is actually a lot.
She already completed one interview last week and has a couple more scheduled for early next week, with two additional ones in October. Most results should come out between November and December, though one (Einstein) wonât release decisions until March. The interview formats are either closed-file or open-file traditional, except for one school that uses a panel-style interview.
She learned her lesson from last cycle and applied early this time, with a broader school list (32 vs 23). In addition, the major improvements in her extracurriculars helped her secure several IIs in August and September. Hopefully, sheâll interview well but Iâm relieved to see no red flags in her application, especially with her writing.
yes
@ttb1263 any updates??
@Thumper1: She received another interview invitation and has completed all of her interviews, but she still hasnât received an acceptance yet. This wait has been very stressful for us.
for her!
Hello. My child is also applying to med schools. Child is at Vanderbilt, Class of 2026. MCAT=522, sGPA>3.95, cGPA>3.95; applying to many schools because child doesnât want to have to reapply next year. Sheâs had two interviews and one acceptance.
She has an acceptance so there is no need to apply again! Congratulations on her acceptance.
Thank you. Yes, sheâs excited! I donât know who was more stressed, parents or child ![]()
Everyone feels the stress but in different ways. But once a student has a medical school acceptance, everything else is sort of gravy!
My daughter just received an acceptance! We are so happy, and the stress has finally been lifted.
That is fabulous news! Congratulations!!!
Congratulations!
