This thread is for the current year MD, DO and other applicants and their parents to discuss various schools, application timelines, processes, and seek support as needed. Past threads are listed so people can review some of the questions already asked and answered.
I am on an iPad and tried to open the above links. None of them opened…what am I doing wrong?
Thanks for checking. I think these are fixed now?
Here is the one link that did apply to those applying to medical school.
I see 2 threads - one with links and another without links.
Which one are we planning to keep?
This thread is for MD, DO applicants and is here. The other one with the links is for BS/MD and BS/DO applicants and it’s in the multiple degree area.
Arent there any medical school applicants here?
Daughter is applying to MD in this cycle. The process is brutal with many applicants for a few seats.
Good luck to your daughter!!
I hope she gets that one acceptance! We will be cheering her on so…do keep us posted.
Is she applying to any DO schools also?
And did she end up graduating early…and apply a year ago?
Thank you so much! Yes, she did graduate early and applied last cycle, but unfortunately only got one II that turned into a WL and then an R. She’s reapplying this cycle, and we’re hoping things go better this time around. She hasn’t applied to DO schools yet, but we’ve definitely kept the option in mind.
I appreciate the encouragement and will be sure to updates as the cycle unfolds.
its kind of getting tougher each year. I am trying to help several reapplicants in the other site.
Is it even possible to predict chances for med schools? There are so many components and factors, and sometimes it even comes down to luck. There are really two hurdles: first, getting the interview invite (II), where the odds are much lower, and then the interview itself, where the chances improve a bit.
In my opinion, it’s hard to predict chances for medical schools.
BUT, I will say, my own kid would not have been a good applicant for places like Hopkins, or Yale. She just didn’t have those kinds of stats. SOOOO…she did not apply to those level of medical schools.
And she turned out just fine…and as a D.O.
If you go to consultants they promise certain things. If you ask someone unvested who knows how people fare based on accumulated knowledge over years, they can tell you how to apply based on a person’s stats, activities, and general profile.
I tell many to apply to DO also based on their competitiveness for a Texas application being low. Those who took my advice fared well while there are others who keep reapplying.
My kid applied to about 20 schools…about half were MD and half DO. She also did a lot of research into the missions of the different schools. Important to know if you sort of match the mission of a particular school, in my opinion.
Hoping @WayOutWestMom will contribute some info here.
My daughter applied to 32 schools and has gotten 5 interview invites so far. Hopefully at least one of them turns into an acceptance. Fingers crossed!
I honestly thought she could’ve applied to a few more schools, maybe even some extra T20s, but I didn’t want to stress her out. I felt it was better to let her handle things on her own. Still, I might suggest she throw in a couple of DO schools just to boost her chances.
for her!
5 interviews is quite good since it is still early in amcas.
The rubric is: Interviews three and a doctor you’ll be.
Meaning her odds are pretty good she’ll get an acceptance somewhere unless she’s a complete dud at interviewing.
