***Thread For BS/MD/DO 2023-2024 Applicants/Parents ***

I looked in last year’s thread but did not find anything about OU and Stonybrook interviews. Can the long-timers/experts please respond with when they are expected to come, traditional or MMI, in-person or virtual etc. information? Thank you!

Does anyone know what’s happening with NJMS? Supplemental submitted just over 4 weeks ago. Silence so far. Are we done or there is still hope?

I know a lot of students from NOVA DO and for some reason they think that they have a very good shot (as good as the MD students) for competitive residencies at the Kiran Patel medical school (MD).

The general academic level and hence the STEP scores of the NOVA DO students is way lower than that of NOVA MD students, so I wouldnt even know why they would think that they have a very good shot!! Ofcourse there are exceptions but…

If you do not get an interview from NJMS by March 15, the chances are close to zero.

LECOM limits number of students from each feeder school. If LECOM is popular at a school you need to sign papers as soon as possible or you may need to find another LECOM feeder…If very few students sign up from feeder to LECOM, you may wait until November.

There is nothing to sign with LECOM. They impose that limit when they make the offer. If for example, there are 5 seats allotted to USF, they will make 5 offers and after that no seats from that feeder will be available. That is my understanding of how LECOM works.

This is not what LECOM coordinator told me last year.
DD is in LECOM EAP. She changed her LECOM feeder last year.
Note, LECOM is notorious from our experience to change rules nonstop…
It is possible that they do something different this year.

Thank you for the heads up.

The residencies started with DO program and now they have to compete with MD students. Not sure if they increased the positions or not when they added MD.

I believe they just created BS/MD this year for the next year. Last year Nova had only BS/DO. So most if not all current NSU MD students completed BS not at Nova.

2 years ago, the interview emails for Stony Brook came around March 14

We are discussing current DO and MD students unrelated to the combined program.

BS/MD applicant for 2024. Applied with aspiration for BSMD and attended few interviews however as it looks like, SLU Med Scholars is the only program so far accepted(OOS). For undergrad Pitt Honors with some aid and VCU with close to full aid are accepted with both in 4 hours distance.

Question about SLU program. The details mentioned in offer letter quote guaranteed interview in junior year , not guaranteed med school admission. I believe this interview is offered in sophomore year usually and is changed to be in junior year for the current admissions. Per the school portal, you cannot apply out to other med schools and 508 is MCAT required.
Pre Health advising at SLU and at least interview look interesting however seeking feedback from experiences here about this program and the options. Thank you

If applying to other med schools is not allowed and SLU is not guaranteeing a med seat, there is a huge risk of not going to medical school at all. How is this program even tenable?

Whats the exact verbage? How do they prevent you from applying out if they are not giving you an admission?

SLU – I believe you cannot apply out IF you get admission after the interview in the junior year. Then it is binding. However if after the interview you do not get admission then you are ofcourse allowed to apply out.

That would make sense. It cant be binding if they have not admitted you.
