Thread for stories about people who screwed up their lives at UPenn.

In addition to a more specific thread about financial misery on campus, I want to start this thread about people who messed up in general at UPenn. I have a week before I absolutely must make a decision regarding college. Should I make the wrong decision, I am in danger of posting my own cautionary tales on college confidential for the rest of my life…from a computer in some Philadelphia public library. I have already heard plenty of horror stories myself.

Any story or situation is fine:

Mugging or robbery/virus that led to failing classes/self-destruction through drugs, alcohol, etc./general disillusionment/inability to find internships that pay/anything else that sucked

Feel free to share a story about either yourself or a friend.

Sorry to be so harsh…but I’m sure you can get horror stories on every college section of CC. You can also get tales of woe from kids who graduated with more debt than they could handle or had to take off a year so that they could earn enough money to return to college.

The negative tone of your two threads on this forum certainly make me think that Penn is not for you!

Plenty of those things happened to me

my off-campus house got robbed. All they stole was my AirPort router, oddly

Mono. I withdrew from classes towards the end of the semester and got my life back on track.

I still thrived at Penn and loved my time there.

These shouldn’t break you, or lead you into “self-destruction through drugs, alcohol, etc” if they do then you sound like quite the weak and/or unstable person who should go get babysat at some nice rural liberal arts college, and then go into academia (or being a government employee) because the private sector might hurt your feelings.
