Three Lab Classes Too Much?

Can any current engineering students (or Dr. G) give me an opinion on whether taking three lab classes (EGR 75L, ECE 54L and PHY62L) plus Math 108 and CompSci100E is too heavy a load for one semester? Thx.

OUCH…

first semester sophomore year i’m assuming…

That would be one hellish semester and I firmly recommend against it.

A few notes:

When people overload they typically have two or three “easier” classes, and you really don’t have one.

Compsci 100E is technically a lab course – it requires lots of time out of class. So you would be in 4 lab courses at once.

Physics 62 has a ridiculous amount of class time because of lecture, lab, and recitation.

Math 108 is just hard.

yea… not a good idea :)

Why ECE54? How would you end up in 54 in the first semester of sophomore year without taking 51 or 52 concurrently (typical path)

What are you trying to accomplish by overloading?

i’m considering the following for this fall, fall of sophomore year

physics 62
math 107
ece 51
econ 105
compsci 108

I think i’m going to end up dropping CS 108 however…

Depends on who you have, but for me, anyways, EGR 75 lab was not a big deal. There were three and they were pretty easy - each took less than an hour to write up. For Phys 62, it depends on your TA but most labs don’t take the whole time and they’re group writeups so you and your partner can write it up in lab. I have no idea about 54, as I’m going to take it this fall too…but my roommate took it and he seemed to have a good deal of labs. I would really suggest you drop one of these, or switch it with an easier class because this would kill most people not named Billy Hwang.

Sounds like my schedule. 1 side class, then Compsci100E, ECE27L, ECE51L, and Math 108.

billy hwang would be in 2 upper level english classes at the same time

Amused … who did you have for EGR 75?

Ana Barros, very good professor

deuxenfants - are you trying the ECE/ME double, then? I would say that combination of five courses is a bit over the top, but without knowing what you’re planning to study, not sure how well it can be avoided… You can e-mail or AIM me your plans if you’d like me to take a look - Dr. G

bsbllallstr8 - I have a feeling “Billy Hwang” is going to become the “Chuck Norris” of Duke.

“Billy Hwang had two kinds of semester - overloads and super-overloads”

As Billy Hwang’s next door neighbor for a couple years, I’ll be amused to tell my children stories about The Legend.
