<p>“Three Princeton scholars are among 38 people recently elected to membership in the American Philosophical Society.</p>

<p>“The Princeton honorees are: David Botstein, the Anthony B. Evnin '62 Professor of Genomics and director of the Lewis-Sigler Institute for Integrative Genomics; Susan Naquin, professor of history and East Asian studies; and Peter Sarnak, the Eugene Higgins Professor of Mathematics.</p>

<p>“The American Philosophical Society the oldest learned society in the United States, was founded in 1743 by Benjamin Franklin.</p>

<p>“Early members included George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Paine, James Madison, and John Marshall. </p>

<p>“Today the Society has 975 elected members, 809 resident members and 166 international members from more than two dozen foreign countries. Since 1900, more than 260 members have received the Nobel Prize. </p>

<p>Stanford led all U.S. institutions this year with six faculty members elected to the prestigious society. </p>
