Thumb sucking and shared dorms

I’m in high school this year but I want to go to college next year.

I think I will be sharing a room with other people but I’m worried about it because I still suck my thumb when I’m sleeping or bored.

Do you think it will be a problem? I don’t want to get bullied.

I won’t pretend to have an answer for you on bullying issues because unfortunately this can exist anywhere for any reason, but perhaps finding a school that can guarantee a single dorm will work for you. Good luck to you!

Have you applied places ? Where have you gotten in ? There are schools with single rooms.

There is no way to predict what might cause someone to look side eyes at another person. My kids took their childhood blankies to college and didn’t have a problem.

So this gives you an opportunity to break this habit if you want to. Adult Thumb-Sucking: Causes, Side Effects, and How to Stop https://share.google/5YnnTYfMQmKpzNofZ

Soner or later, you should probably consider replacing this self-soothing technique with something that can be done without others teasing you, or viewing you as a misfit. A lot of colleges give single dorm rooms to people who have documented issues requiring a single room. If you have a dcoumented mental health condition, it might be straighforward. But perhaps now is a good time to work on adjusting your behavior. Good luck.

Has this habit caused serious dental issues ?

Yes, it will be a problem.

My front teeth have come forward but I’m not sure if it’s from sucking my thumb or not.

I haven’t gotten in yet but a single dorm would be nice.

You’ll need to work with your school (and possibly a medical professional) to make that happen.

There are schools you could have (and maybe still can) apply to that offer single rooms. You need to find them.

We’ve exhausted this conversation, so I’m closing this thread.
