Thunderbird

Does anyone know how to save all the emails in your thunderbird account onto your harddrive? Thanks

On the left side of Thunderbird, there should be a Local Folders listing. Right click the Local Folders heading and create a new folder. Go to where you usually see your emails, select the ones you want to save. From the upper menu bar, you can do Edit -> Select -> All to grab em all. Then right click the selected group and copy or move them to Local Folders -> “New Folder”.

but does that actually get the emails out of the thunderbird and onto another part of your computer like your desktop?

Thanks.

It takes the emails from wherever Thunderbird accesses them (many times Thunderbird just “views” the emails on a remote server, so they’re not usually stored on your computer at all). I think Thunderbird uses a special format when storing emails on the local harddrive, so you wouldn’t be able to do much with just the files.

What are you trying to do with the saved emails?

I need to save them because I need to reformat my computers and I don’t want to lose the any of the emails in my inbox.

So you are saying I actually can’t save those emails?

Well, I think that when you click on an email, not opening it, and then go to the File menu, there should be an option to save the email. I know that there is an email format that is the default to save as, but there may be in the dropdown extensions, to save it as a text file or something. I know that’s what I did to save my emails in the past, but I can’t see for myself right now since I’m in school.
