Ti83 sum of a list?

I was helping my mom add up the credit invoice for the past month and she wanted everything placed into categories. I decided to use the lists in my ti83 with one list for each category. For example, GL is the list for the stuff she highlighted with a green line, OL is for orange line, GC for green circle, etc.

I have gone and entered alot of data, but now when I go to sum the list, I get data error. I press second stat (list), then go over to the math tab, then go down to sum (5), then type GC (the name of the list). Then I close the parenthesis and press enter. Then I get DATA ERROR.

Does anyone know how to fix this, or know a way to get the data usable? Normally summing is that simple, but for some reason it is not recognizing the list names.

PS: I know this is slightly off topic, but I’m assuming everyone on here has used a Ti83, so surely someone knows.

I’m doing this with a TI-84, so maybe yours is different [probably not, though] but when you go to List –> MATH –> sum( instead of putting in the name of the list, put in the…ID of the list? Like L1 or L2.

So List –> Math –> sum( –> List –> L1/L2/L3, etc.

Is this it?
