My son is doing a Biology/pre med major. He would really like to participate in a jazz program as well without being a music major. I think we have landed on Texas State, but he is considering Texas Tech as well. I cant find any stats on medical school admittance from Texas State, so that’s concerning me. Does this tier one vs. tier two thing make a huge difference as far as undergrad goes? I know Texas State doesn’t have the best rep on here, but we did get a good vibe from the campus. Does anyone know where I can find the med school admittance stats for Texas State vs Texas Tech?
A students MCAT score is more important than the school they attended. I am not sure if you can find what is the average MCAT score for each school. I do know every nursing graduate in the class of 2016 for Texas State past their exams. I wish I could be of more help.
UT San Antonio has a Certificate in Jazz. Have you looked into UTSA? My son plans to study Physics and fit in a minor in music/jazz along with a minor in math. He is down to deciding between two schools, Texas Tech and UT San Antonio.
Will tell you University of Houston has one of the most AMAZING jazz programs in the country. Head of dept is Noe Marmalejo…the place is unbelievable! Very good academically for premed as well!
@phillyg007, interesting. Early in his career, Marmalejo was my brother’s HS orchestra director. Terrific musician and fine person.
