Time for a new SUV!

Yea, agree that hybrids have appeal. But the downside arguments have some merit too.

I need a new suv, too. I just want a 4x4 suv with a real tailgate with ground clearance to drive on the beach. Ford is trying…

I am hoping the upcoming 2025 ford excursion with the tailgate pushes other manufacturers to reconsider the useless liftgate. I don’t want something as big as an Excursion, and I don’t want something as fancy as the Land Rover (and even used I would question spending that much money). The Rivian with tailgate does not have the driving range we need.

We should have kept the rusted 80’s era Jeep Grand Cherokee we gave away to someone with a farm when we just did not have the time or money to fix it…it was not really an icon 20 years ago that it is now.

We bought a Toyota 4Runner many years ago because it had a real tailgate - you could even open the window in it. I just checked and it looks like it still does.

Thanks, the 4 Runner and their new Land Cruiser both have full liftgates. The window does open on the 4Runner liftgate and several others, but none of the new ones have a piece that folds down to sit on.

That’s too bad. At least those gorgeous dogs look happy!

Good luck on your search

My car arrived to the dealership on Friday, but I was out of town with my son and family. I went by yesterday to have them give me a price for a trade in; I had a decent price from CarMax, and they came close. It is just easier to trade with them, so I go back tomorrow to leave one car, and head home in my new Lexus RX-350h.

While I was working with 3 different dealerships, this one was able to get what I wanted. I believe they were able to switch a color on a car in their allotment. There was nothing extra added to the car that I didn’t want, which was something I was afraid of; some of these add ons could increase the price by $2K-$3K. As it was technically an order, and there are no hybrids on the lots, I didn’t save as much as I would have liked, but I knew that going in.

I hate driving a car that isn’t mine, so it will take me some time to get comfortable with this car, especially with all the electronics. I probably will be reading the manual for weeks! While my current car is 13 years old, I will miss it, as I really like it.

I’m sure you’ll get acquainted with it in no time. Apple car play (or the Android version) will be a great thing for you.

Enjoy.

Congrats!! Best SUV we’ve ever had. Actually, 2 of them. Then came the X. Well drive it into the ground and get a Lexus EV. I’m envious of your rain sensing wipers and headlights that turn with the car!! Enjoy.

I have those too…and I love them. And I also have auto high beams that lower automatically when an oncoming car is coming.

Have fun learning your new car features. Mine is almost a year old, and I’m still learning new things!

My friend recently got a new car and she said You Tube has been great for figuring out her new car.
Congratulations on the new car.

@mom60 As I have been looking at this car for months, I learned about 2 one hour YouTube Deep Dive videos. While I haven’t viewed them yet, they have been saved on my computer for months! According to many on the RX group I found, everything is there. Once the car is in my garage, I will start watching.

I don’t like those auto sensing dimmers! Of course, I still prefer the dimmer on the left foot floor board!

Just curious….why?

They don’t seem to get it right, or at least not when I went them on or not on. Could be just our vehicle, but I am still a person that likes control. I have very rarely used cruise control only because I don’t feel like I’m doing the driving and afraid it can easily distract you if you don’t have the feel of control. Guess it’s just a control thing.

Personal preference and that’s OK!

I feel like I’ll be the same way with the windshield wipers. I’m very noise sensitive, and the wipers are one that can drive me batty. I want to have control to have it exactly how I need it at the time. Hopefully, they have a setting when you can turn that stuff off.

Maybe we need a thread on new car features…I’ll start one!
