Time for a new SUV!

Poor rear and rear side outward visibility is a common “feature” on recent cars. Backup cameras help when backing up, but the poor rear and rear side outward visibility can be annoying when trying to check if it is safe to change lanes while driving.

The Polestar 4 pretty much gave up on having a rear window, so it is basically like a cargo van in that respect. But they did throw in a rear view mirror connected to a rear facing camera (though some vehicles with rear windows also have this feature).

The rear is fine, it’s the side that’s an issue. I have learnt to always make sure I check my blind spot indicator too when changing lanes.

After I test drove the BMW X5 xDrive50e, my husband asked if I liked the heads up display. (He really liked it.) I honestly didn’t notice it. Must have been a prescription sunglasses issue.

Or possibly where it is on the windshield. Ours is adjustable and because I’m short, if I move it all the way down, I can not see it.

Some various complaints….

When we hopefully get a long test drive this week on Lexus NX 350h, I intend to bring along a collection of my prescription glasses and sunglasses / clip-ons. Will also bring along a cheapie pair of nonprescription for my husband since he usually wears high end Ray Ban.

I was behind this same vehicle yesterday and told my DH to find out more about it bc I liked the looks of it.

I will be looking forward to hearing about your longer test drive.

LOL - I have been paying more attention to small SUVs on the road and in parking lots. So many brands, models etc. Honestly they all look a lot the same to me. For us it’s all about comfort (we take 5000+ mile summer road trips), performance (including winter ski trips into the mountains), adjustability (hubby is a foot taller than me), reliability/warranty… ideally without generating too many emissions etc.

I like Volvos, but they keep getting smaller. First I had the XC90, then the XC60. Maybe next it will be the XC40.

I have an XC40 - It’s about the same size as my 2010 Subaru Forester was in overall dimensions. The newer Foresters are overall bigger these days.
One difference I found is that the passenger space is roomier, and the cargo space much smaller, than the 2010 Forester. That’s nice because I’m more likely to have passengers than stuff in my car.

That can be a good compromise, especially if the rear seats go down in times when you have cargo but no passengers.
