Time for a new SUV!

Did you ever require a subscription to use your heated options ?

They killed it due to consumer backlash but are trying other things.

The auto park is scary - it runs ‘fast’ but very good - for bad parkers like me.

No subscription.

I have never used the Advance Park on my Lexus, but I have thought about trying it in an empty parking lot. It freaks me out to allow the car to self park!

I am always in the space, but usually closer the one line or the other than I would like. Or I am at an angle within the space with the front end right on the line. I know it is the way I pull into the space, so have my camera on, but by then it is sometimes too late to straighten out without backing out a bit.

What baffles me is I had zero trouble with my previous large SUV. I didn’t forget how to park in one day of getting the Lexus! I have tried a seat cushion to see it sitting higher would help; it really didn’t and I actually sat too high. I have watched videos on how to park which didn’t help. Short of having a drivers ed teacher to go with me to see what I am doing wrong, I will just be that old lady that can’t park!

My 2018 Volvo XC60 parks itself, but I’ve been afraid to try it. My husband needs it more than I do. We often have a bike rack/hitch on the back of the car, which means the self-park option wouldn’t work anyway.

My husband has a spreadsheet comparing our current cars to models in consideration. I’m wondering if maybe difference in wheelbase can be part of the adjustment to driving/parking a new car. For me, I do expect the new longer hoods will take some getting used to. Cameras may help, especially if I learn to take advantage of “top view” options.

I LOVE the “top view” car cameras. They are much easier for me to understand than the typical rear cameras. Unfortunately, most of the cars we are considering don’t have that option, unless the top (and pricy) trim line. And typically the higher trim line automatically comes with moon/sun roofs, which we DO NOT want.

We have a Tesla with self park. It’s a bit freaky when you first use it, but it’s way better than I am at parking. H & I don’t use the autopilot (or whatever they call it), but my BIL uses his all the time.

I’m excited about the smart safety features available now that weren’t around in 2010!

DH has the top park on his Toyota RAV4. It’s not on my newer Lexus! And I am officially jealous.

So we expected there would be self-driving cars by the time retired. That didn’t happen. But some really cool safety features have come along.

Are you still liking the heads up display (HUD)? We’ve been ruling that out due to the $1k extra cost. It is same info as on the dash, and I’ve heard there can be issue with polorized sunglasses. But… some of the available cars with other features we like come with HUD.

I do like it- easier to keep eyes on the road-but it’s one of those things you can live without if you don’t want to spend the money. All the same info is on the instrument display and you’re used to glancing down to see it anyway. What I really love and would definitely get again is the 360 camera. Super helpful.

Thanks for the feedback. Yea, the 360 camera is really helpful. It splurgy but is close to being on our must-have options list. (For the Lexus NX 350h…. unless we order, with lonnng wait time, the available cars seem to often comes with HUD too.)

I don’t even notice my HUD during the daytime, and my prescription sunglasses are not polarized. Unless I turn my head, I can not see it and I have tried adjusting it. Now at night it is nice, but I could have lived without it, but it came with the package I wanted.

H & I have finally decided on our new SUV – a BMW X5 xDrive50e! Picked out colors and options yesterday. Will likely be a special order (~ two months) because there isn’t what we want nearby, and we’re not in a hurry.

I hadn’t driven one until yesterday. I love everything about it! Puts my 2010 Lexus to shame. (Lexus RX 450h+ was our second choice.)

I had HUD on my 2010 Lexus, and it was a must have when I bought a new car. I rent cars often and realize that although it just takes a second, lookin down is looking away from the road. There is a way to adjust the position and brightness, so it should always be visible.

My newer car shows the current speed limit and the car’s .

With all that said, if you had to choose between that and the 360 camera, you’d probably be happier with the latter.

Next week we may have a chance to drive a Lexus 350h hybrid up into the mountains. (Same test drive we did for last car, tried Audi A4 and A6. Also years ago for the Montana Transport minivan - oh, that traction control was a game changer.). Assuming it does not sell before then, which is a possibility - they seem in high demand.

I’m loving my HUD and mine shows when someone is in your blindspot.

Interesting. What kind of car? Is that common?

I love my Macan but its one drawback is a huge blind spot. This would be so useful. Something to take into account for next time I’m buying.

Husband’s new Mazda CX-5. I wasn’t expecting a HUD, so I’m still learning all the ins and outs.
