@snowball, could you give an update on the RX 350h?
I am deciding between the 350 and a Lincoln Nautilus.
I ruled out the Acura because of recall issues my sister is having with her MDX. I am especially interested in the comfort, lumbar issue.Did you get the Macademia interior color? Do you think the very light color will be a problem in the future?
I love the blue color ! Thanks for any advice.
@Mabelsmom I have had my RX 350h for a month now, and so far I like it. I am still learning all the setting on the electronics; there are so many! It drives nicely and my GD approves, so that is all that matters!
I have the Premium+ with the Palomino interior. I did not want the Macademia as it was too white for me. I wear jeans most days, and was concerned about the dye transfer. Even in my old MDX with taupe interior, my drivers seat was blue under my thighs. Reading the 1000 reviews and chat rooms I visited, many said they had no trouble with jeans, and the other half said they did. I really preferred the color of the Palomino interior, so waited for it to come in.
I am only 5â2" and feel like the lumbar support hits just a bit low on me, but it might just be the way I sit in the car. I would like to sit a bit higher, but am at the upper limit of the seat. I have gotten use to it, but feel like I could use another inch.
The blue is very dark and can look almost black when not in the sun. I still like it, especially with my interior.
Thank you!
That was my concern about the Macademia interior, and I wasnât able to see the Palomino in person.
Both cars are very smooth and a quiet ride, although both are hybrids, the Lexus wins in average MPG.
I love the fact that your GD gave her approval!
Curious if other have had this problem with a new SUV or car, or maybe I am that old driver now! I am having a time parking my RX straight. At first I thought it was getting use to a new car, but here we are 2 months later and I still park crooked. While I never had trouble with my old SUV, or any I have rented, this one baffles me. Tires are bigger, so thought it was that and maybe a wider wheel base, but I should be use to that by now. Then I thought it was the flat hood, or maybe how I sit in the car; again, I should be able to adapt for that.
I am embarrassed to have to pull into a parking space, only to look at my camera and see how I am close to one side or the other and also at a bit of an angle, so I always re-park to straighten out. While I am within the line, I donât want to be so close to one side and have the neighboring car ding my door. It also doesnât seem to matter if it is a left or right turn into the space, or a straight or angled parking spot.
I have turned on my camera display when at a traffic light to see if I am close to one side or the other; driving on the road does not seem to be a problem. Do I need to go back to driving school? Could it be an alignment issue, although I never feel it pulling on the road? I either need to learn to park straight or deal with the fact I can no longer park; I prefer the former!
I do this with my Mercedes - took me a year to finally admit that either my head is crooked or my eyes are and now I pull in and park with the front end turned just slightly to the left and line it up that way and sure enough even though it looks crooked to me from the drivers seat, when I get out, it is straight. Donât know if itâs just the line of site from the middle of the hood or what but once I did that, I park straight all the time.
I bought a seat cushion for my last car to get that extra inch!
As for the parking, I can relate. I think it helps to start turning from further back (i.e, not as close to the space.) Something about the turning radius.
Agree on the turn radius. Our 2005 RX had a rather large one.
Your RX doesnât have a park assist feature ? Or a camera ? Many today have 360 cameras for front and rear parking.
My car parallel parks. Scares me but does it right, something I stink at.
My current car (macan) and previous (bm, not suv) both have a function that my husbandâs (Audi) doesnât*, which is that you can angle the passenger side mirror down in reverse so you can see the kerb/line marker when youâre parking. I find it very useful. Also useful for reversing out of some driveways (like ours haha)
*his old Audi had the full (top down) camera so he could see exactly where he was parking though. His current one doesnât have this
I do use my camera; that is how I know I am crooked!. I try to turn in on while pulling into a spot, but it is not always as helpful as I would like.
I may have to go to an empty parking lot like I did with the kids when they were learning to drive to practice. I am just annoyed that I noticeably do not park straight more times than not.
How are you liking your RX? We drove a nice NX 350h and thought it was pretty peppy (though I thought I had seen some reviews that say otherwise).
I am enjoying it, but would have enjoyed any new car. I still have trouble parking in crowded parking spaces straight, something I did not have trouble with in my previous SUV that was the same size. I do think it is the flatness of the hood, and I donât see the front corners as well. Between that and the warning beeps that I am close to something (and I am not) I park with some trepidation!
My aunt has an old RX and her husband has the NX; they both love their cars.
When I started driving our 2006 Odyssey, it the small blunt front end was disconcertingâŠ. I am short and really canât see much of the hood. But over time I got used to it, knew that the short hood was easy to maneuver anywhere. (Admittedly backing up without a camera is no fun.) Fast forward to current car shopping and I actually CAN see the hoods. So much dang front end on all the cars and mid-sized SUV.
Is that why Iâm having a hard time pulling our new CX-5 into the garage? It seems to be 1/2 the size of our Fusion, but twice as hard to pull in.
LOL - Donât ask me. Iâm the one in the family where the others jokingly ask if I can use handicapped parking spots due to my parking disability.
You all need a car with park assist - it will parallel park or pull in spots for you.
Iâm the worst at parking btw. I use mine to parallel park. Saves me from the stares of taking 8 times to finally get in.
Backup cameras with the lines the turn when turning the steering make parallel parking much easier. If there is a top down view, that is also a help.
Weâve been shopping for a new car. Recently we decide that instead of upgrading my husbandâs car we will replace my beloved 2006 Odyssey with 103k miles (phew, found a friend who wants it), use it as our road trip car. Getting a backup camera is a HUGE plus for me. Had I known the Odyssey would last this long I would have added one years ago. My husband has a backup camera, but he has liked the âtop viewâ/360 camera options.
We test drove a BMW X5 PHEV SUV that has the top down backup camera and parking assist. This will be replacing my 2010 Lexus. I suck at parking. Top contender!
I have the BMW X3. I donât use it but it can parallel park itself. I am enjoying the heated steering wheel and heated seats this winter. It drives well in snow.
