So, I’m applying online but having my school send in the recommendations and secondary school report. I’ve also given them a check for UC. I’m sending in my essays, along with my supplemental materials and I was wondering if should just send them both in the same package towards the admission office and hope that they understand it’s for the application. Does this all make sense?

I don’t see why that would be bad. Why don’t you just put your essays in on the online app?

Nuh-uh, the format is ridiculously vital for all of them except for my extended. Though, I’m turning that one in by mail as well for good measure.

Sorry for the double post but, I was wondering what supplemental would be better. I’ve limited myself to 5:00 minutes of playing time because I think they’ll tire of me longer than that but I want to know if it would be better if I played something like Coldplay and sang it, or should I play Rachmaninov’s Prelude in C#? I don’t want to play something they’ve already heard a bunch of times but I don’t want to dampen my playing ability either! Or should I change up the whole thing and play Final Fantasy music?

I’m really not an expert on this at all, but I must say that I absolutely LOVE the Final Fantasy X Piano Collection. It’s one of my all-time favorite albums…specifically “Attack” and “Thunder Plateau” and “Besaid Island.” :)

o_o Oh. My god. Those are my favorite too! I’m so melodramatic about this because those are three I have sheet music for from the collection. I know how to play attack and thunder plains but I never got around to Besaid Island. They’re very great pieces.

I think I might just go with Coldplay or something.

That’s crazy! I don’t know if anyone in admissions is as big of fans of Final Fantasy music as us, but those pieces are absolutely fantastic. They’ve got stories to them.

But I’m biased–I don’t like Coldplay. :)

You can do whatever you want, however. Good luck getting it all done in time for the EA deadline!

EDIT:
Does your version of FFX Piano Collection call the song “Thunder Plains” and not “Thunder Plateau”? That’s odd.

Whelp, I’ve just finished applying online. I’m sending in the essays tomorrow, postmarked November 1st, along with my supplemental materials. It’s out of my hands now, unless I want to make any revisions to my essays. My only regret is is not involving myself with University of Chicago earlier. I wish I had scheduled an interview or on campus tour during the summer, I wouldn’t be feeling so anxious now. But whatever happens, happens. Do you guys think I can post all three of my essays in the “Post your essay here” thread?

yeah, you can post your essays since you already sent them in.

I’d hold off on that until the regular decision has passed.

Edit: azn, I had an on-campus interview, and it hasn’t made me feel any less nervous. As soon as I walked outside of Rosenwald Hall, I started freaking about all the little details that could’ve made my interview better.

Whelp, you wanna read em?

I wish I had the interview. I would’ve made glasses using my index and thumb fingers and placed them over my eyes while he’d be speaking. It would’ve been awesome.

What did you end up playing for your supplement?

Chopin’s minute waltz XD
