Time for the lurkers to say hi!!!

I know there are a lot of people who frequent this board and rarely (or never) post (I know from the PMs I get!!!). How about a quick hi from you? If you’re really brave, tell us if you are a student, potential student, current UMD parent, or parent of potential-UMD student.

I’ll start (ha, I’m sure it’s not necessary)…mom with 2 D(aughter)s at UMD…Freshman, and Junior. Although I’ve mostly weaned myself off of CC, I can’t seem to stay away from this forum!

Great thread. I’m mostly a lurker and also weaning from CC but love UMCP and feel it’s such a great up and coming St U, by which I mean “a really good University” that can serve as a launching pad to the stars for the great young minds that hang there.

My s is one such mind that studies Econ, operational management (at Smith), and is minoring in studies at the center for international development and conflict management. He’s a B/K scholar and a ho hummer.

My d has applied and will likely be accepted and I hope I hope I hope she chooses to go
there also. She’s a young woman who’s lived abroad as a foreign exchange student and loves classical literature. she also loves twilight and harry potter, not a snob, but doesn’t suffer fools gladly.

I usually post here too.

Im a current UMD student. I’m undecided, but I’m thinking of doing Environmental Science and Policy since i really appreciate nature and want to learn about it.

I love UMD, its a great school, professors are nice, the student body is pretty nice (apart from the percentage of jerks), and its a pretty fun time too. Not to mention that the girls are top notch!

Hmmm…not sure if I qualify as a lurker. I definitely read more often than I post, so maybe. Mom of a current UMCP student (freshman) looking to go into Physics or Engineering although he was accepted in the Architecture LEP. I discovered CC after college search and decision process was over but while still waiting for news on NROTC scholarship transfer. Like Astro, I usually only read this forum, because it gives me a feeling of being connected to DS’s somewhat distant college experience. I’ve learned a ton from Pima and Astro and the Maryland students on here!

I have recently found CC and find most of my questions (or curiosities) being addressed. It is great to learn about the various programs offered by the University and I benefit from the other parent/student’s perspective.

My D is a freshman Business major participating in the Scholars BSE program. She is off to a great start and enjoying every minute.

I am not a lurker, but still want to say welcome to the new posters.

for terpfantoo, I believe all scholar students must do an internship during their soph yr (at least govt and politics do) for the citation of scholars. FYI, if she wants to do a fall internship, she needs to start working on it in by spring break, most internships for the Fall close around May. For spring soph internships typically will close by Nov. For govt and politics the process was sim. to college applications, references, recommendations, essays, etc. It is not something that can be pushed out over a weekend. The problem our DS faced was scheduling his mandated core courses while trying to have days off to work. He will be interning for Sen. Burr on the hill for Spring. Here’s the other catch if you are OOS, it starts Jan. 13th and ends May 20th, luckily we live in No.VA, so he can commute during winter break, but it could be a hassle for someone who comes from TX since the dorms will be closed for @ 2 more weeks. Additionally his hrs are Tues/Thurs 8:30 to 4:30, which means on top of ROTC and carrying 19 credits he will be for one semester basically working 9-5 M-F. Also, if she is on scholarship she will still be required to carry at least a 3.2

Hi astrophysicsmom, I’ve been lurking a little here and there. I hope your daughters are doing well! My son is happy and healthy. We’re looking forward to him coming home for break soon.
