Time to Build an Ark in the SE

Hoping to be able to make it to work today, but don’t know who else will be there. Never in all my years here have I seen this kind of flooding. Most schools closed (public and private) highways closed due to flooding, 4 people swept away in floodwaters. We are ok, but my thoughts are to all of you affected by these floodwaters. If anyone has a kid attending school in this area, let me know and I will be happy to check on them or be available if they need anything. They are probably fine, as to my knowledge, there arent any major creeks/rivers near the colleges/universities around here, but happy to help if someone needs anything.

At least six dead so far. Public schools here closed for the second day in a row. H had a hard time finding a route home from work yesterday with so many roads closed. Lots of people without power, normal run on bottled water and emergencies supplies at groceries and Home Depot. Apparently more rain than the last “100-years flood”.

Personally not affected so far, so it’s hard to wrap my mind around what is happening.

A good friend of D’s is at Emory’s Oxford campus- she posted video that showed some fairly significant rain accumulation- hate to call it flooding per se. Any idea of what the situation is like in that area?

Oxford is about an hour from here-- due E of Atlanta. Not sure what their situation is, but I will ck. Most of the reports here were about flooding in the metro Atlanta area.

Glad you are OK, binx. Thanks for checking in  DId your DH make it in ok today?

We are on a hill and happened to have fixed the basement door threshold recently so didnt have any flooding. Some friends inthe neighborhood werent so lucky. Lent them our dehumidifier at 10 last night. My ofc manager had a hard time getting in today with road closures in her area, but found a circuitous way.

Rivers have crested and seem to be receeding, per the news. Only expecting a little rain today (1/2 inch). Some places got double digit inches of rain yesterday in a short period of time.

DS’s campus flooded last week, but I don’t know how bad it was.

Glad to hear ya’ll are dry, Jym and Binx. I’m trying to get in touch with some friends in Atl, too. It has been wet down here, but over a longer period of time, and we are used to a couple of inches an hour type rain, no big deal. No hillsides for the water to run down.

Thanks. Glad you are ok, cangel. What part of town are your friends in? Need any help cking on them?

Glad you guys are OK. It’s been raining here in Music City forever, too, but we haven’t had the flooding nearly to the extent Georgia has. Last night my husband (keeps up with the weather) assured me that it would not rain today until after I got to work. Well, there I am out for my 8 mile run at 5:30 in the thunder and lightening and pouring rain. Of course, it didn’t START raining until I was out the door, or I wouldn’t have gone. Lovely.
I am working on a significant matter with a lawyer in Atlanta and she thought her daughter’s school would be closed today.

My S2’s birthday is Thursday - I just sent him a message saying his birthday card will be late! I have a care package all ready to go, and the card is inside, but roads to post office are closed. Fortunately his main gift is coming via Amazon.

As far as I know, H got to work okay today - haven’t heard from him. DOT is recommending that folks stay home, but don’t think his company shares their opinion.

Saw coverage of this on the news–how terrible! Didn’t this area recently have drought conditions?

Our thoughts are with those of you dealing with the rain and flooding. We also saw coverage on the news last night and it was quite scary. It’s been raining alot here too but in a slow drizzly kind of way.

Ely,
Yes, I think the drought situation has been sufficiently resolved. Theres still a huge battle, though, over the drinking water supplied bt TN, FL and GA by a manmade lake north of Atl (Lake Lanier). Right now there is probably more than enough to go around.

Binx-
Happy bday to your s. Might want to send him an ecard. They are really cute. And as for todays (current) weather-- severe sun :)

Thanks magnolia, MOWC, etc. It was sild around here. Several yrs back after a hurricane came through middle GA and caused severe flooding, some cemetaries flooded and caskets popped up out of the ground. Ewww. I can still visualize the video of it in my head…
