how do they charge for calling? Basically, i’m in illinois right now, but my phone number is in california (time difference-il is 2 hrs ahead of ca)and i’d be calling to ca. So, when i call after 9:00 in illinois, is it free for me? would it be free for the person in ca if they’re not on the same network? Or do i have to wait until 11:00 to call people for free?

I have Cingular and they told me that your billing time is based on your local time – where you are when the call is made, not the time of the area code of the phone.

I would assume it would be where you are when you make the call, that would make the most sense… but obviously, you can check with the company for the definite answer.

If you’re calling from cell phone to cell phone, both sides are charged, right? So I’d assume that if you called at 10PM in Illinois someone in Cali (8PM) the person in Cali would be charged for a daytime minute while you’d be charged with a night minute (which you have unlimited).

I’m pretty sure the time is counted by where you are, not where your plan is based.

i find it odd that they can tell where you’re calling from. kind of. but then again it makes sense-ish. thanks!

yeah they charge by your time zone (because your time always shows up according to your time zone time) I asked this question to the verizon people and i’m pretty sure other people do it as well because so many people have cell phone they take to other states…
