My Ds and I just watched A Way We Were again…wow

So much there…

it had romance, pollitics which are so relelvent today, college, great clothes, etc

I could watch it again

What other movies have it all? And it was sexy too

The English Patient

Dh and I didn’t like The English Patient. It’s been a long time, so I can’t remember exactly why.

The movies I see again and again tend to be things like The Sound of Music, The Black Stallion, It’s a Wonderful Life. You know, inspirational and G-rated. Not that those are the only ones I like, just that they are the ones I can watch several times and still enjoy them. (I have a special fondness for horse movies–just watched the two Snowy River movies on TV this week…)

For Dh, it would be Casablanca, Easy Rider, and most of the Star Trek movies.

The Graduate, A Clockwork Orange, One flew over the coo coo’s nest.

I really like Hitchcock and John Sayles-
The Lady Vanishes might be my favorite Hitchcock
African Queen
Limbo
Princess Bride
Some like it Hot
To Kill a Mockingbird
Oh how could I forget
THe Heart is a lonely Hunter

And I liked English Patient- but i am a big fan of “Lust in the Dust”
but I don’t know how well it will hold up over time

I watch Dances with Wolves about once every other year. I would watch A River Runs Through It again.

I didn’t see these when they were released, & hadn’t even heard of them. I think they’re both great, & have watched Life as a House with my kids. Great message for them.

A Walk on the Moon
Life as a House

Casablanca - love and a fabulous cast.
The Wizard of Oz - fantasy for kids, comedy for adults (very funny lyrics).
Sunset Boulevard - drama. How good was the young William Holden?
The Philadelphia Story - comedy and another fabulous cast.

Out of Africa
Enchanted April
Romeo and Juliet (Zeffirelli)
Roman Holiday
Stealing Beauty

“A Face in the Crowd”

Andy Griffith … Larry ‘Lonesome’ Rhodes
Patricia Neal … Marcia Jeffries
Anthony Franciosa … Joey DePalma
Walter Matthau … Mel Miller
Lee Remick … Betty Lou Fleckum

“Cool Hand Luke”
“To Kill a Mockingbird”
“Cat on a Hot Tin Roof”
“Long Hot Summer”

bandit_TX,

Just out of curiosity, do you like any movies that aren’t set in the South?

Oh yea, but I guess my roots do show somewhat. I really didn’t even notice that. I tried not to list anything that was listed above, except of course mockingbird. Add, “The Big Easy”, “The Buddy Holly Story”, “Great Balls of Fire”.

I’d vote for almost anything [Morgan Freeman](Morgan Freeman - IMDb) did in the 80s and 90s. Same goes for [Harrison Ford](http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000148/). They don’t pick many duds (some, but not many).

Oh, and I’ll always have a weaness for [Cary Grant](Cary Grant - IMDb) and [Audrey Hepburn](Audrey Hepburn - IMDb). Every once in a while, a good marathon of their movies is in order.

(those links all go to IMBD, where you can see comlete filmographies)

Random musings, not intended to be definitive or exhaustive:

Relatively recent with potential-“Meet Joe Black”; “As Good As It Gets”: “A River Runs Through It”; “6 Degrees of Separation”; “Pulp Fiction”; “Diner”

Almost There Already- “Peggy Sue Got Married”; “The Big Chill”

Not yet specifically mentioned but definites-“Breakfast at Tiffany’s”; “To Sir With Love”

Re: Cary Grant.

Bringing Up Baby and Arsenic and Old Lace. CHARGE!!!

Cary Grant is just fantastic! I watch North by Northwest whenever I get a chance.

I can’t help but love ET, Star Wars and Raiders of the Lost Ark. I also find myself emotionally involved every time I ever watch Rocky and On the Waterfront.

I guess I’ll add anything directed/produced by Steve Spielberg, since a few have been mentioned.

He was on my mind since our beautiful, old movie house here was playing Close Encounters last night.

I second (or is that third? fourth?) “To Kill a Mockingbird”.

And some of you might think my favorites are a little eclectic, but my other nominations for timeless are “Apollo 13” and “Grand Illusion”. I’ve seen each of them a gillion times, and what they have to say about human nature never fades for me.

King Kong may be my favorite. A Charlie Brown Christmas is another favorite as well as The Great Escape.
