<p>No, they don’t withdraw admission offers. Yield projections are very important for all universities. They have to estimate how many will accept their offer of admission and admit enough - but not too many - to try to hit that target. The last few years they have exceeded their Fall target of 2,600 by more than 100 - but they just make space for those students.</p>

<p>Universities do this every year and are usually fairly accurate, but occasionally are off. Waitlists are used as an “insurance policy” to be sure the class is filled. Most universities do this at the student’s expense - the vast majority of waitlisted students will never be offered admission - but USC gives Spring admits a FIRM offer - a far better deal than a waitlist.</p>
