Timing of Interviews

When interviewing for a job/internship/leadership position, is it better to be one of the first people interviewed or one of the last people interviewed? (Assuming the company/organization is interviewing several people over a period of a few days). Or perhaps it is better to be somewhere in the middle? I have tried to search for studies done on this topic, but I’m not having luck finding any. What do you all think?

I think for nearly all things it’s better to be near the end.

Unless they make up their mind early and quit interviewing.

I suppose, but at least when I’ve done interviewing we usually had a list of 10 or so. We usually interviewed all of them before making up our minds. Though I can think of one candidate that was so stellar that she was informed right away. (Teacher selection committee lots of competition from other schools.)
