dragonmom, I was just thinking about this the other day. My eyebrows don’t have more than a couple of gray (OK, white) hairs, but as Pizzagirl said, they seem to be fading a little. I’m going to ask my stylist about pumping up the color a bit the next time I’m getting my highlights done.

One thing to watch out for: My mom has her eyebrows done, and one time the stylist used a shade a little bit too dark. It looked VERY weird. Err on the light side until you’re sure the stylist has the right formula for you.

Yeah, I was just wondering about that, LasMa. Thinking about getting some dye at the grocery store and trying this myself, per bookworm on post #12. But… I might be too chicken… and I was thinking that I need to make sure to get a very light brown to try this with.

I find that my eyebrows just have less hairs than they used to. So tinting them wouldn’t do much. I use an eyebrow pencil and “sketch” in the thin areas. Then I brush them out to soften the pencil and make it look natural. I HATE when I see hard line cartoony eyebrows.

I do have several of those Brow Bars near me. Might have to treat myself although good luck to them trying to find something to pluck or wax on mine.

I do not need it yet on the brows, but do need it on the head. My hair stylist told me she can not use the same dye on my eyebrows as she uses on my head. Not sure why. State law?

The reason I asked my stylist is because I am noticing more grey in the brows. My sister gets her brows done when she gets her hair done, every 5 weeks. But she needs filler or pencil before then.

I know a decent product to help hide the grey between colorings. Can’t endorse a product on CC. So pm me if you want the name.

It was someone on CC who recommended using “Just for Men” mustache and beard dye when I complained that the white hairs sprouting in my brows were threatening to make me a candidate for the role of Mrs. Claus at Macy’s next December. It was a brilliant idea! The dye is packaged in a way that allows you to mix as much or little as needed, and I use a q-tip rather than the brush that comes with the product so I can apply it just to the offending areas. It’s a five minute process, so no big deal to redo it whenever needed. I agree that you should start with a lighter shade to determine what’s best for you.

I honestly didn’t think I would EVER do this in a million years…I have “platinum” blonde hair…aka…pure white!..a few years ago I got my eyebrows “tattoo’d”. I no longer worry about my eyebrows-as they are “there” every morning when I wake up! Given the seriousness of a tattoo…best to use a licensed professional who specializes in it.
Just a thought…

For the last year, my hairdresser has been tinting my brows. It makes a huge difference in defining the face. My brows were nowhere near as white as the hair on my head would be if I didn’t color it, but they were just a bit muddy. I also have the brows shaped every month or two and am very pleased with the result. It makes for easy at home maintenance in between. So funny what it takes to feel put together as one ages. And as a rule, I am a pretty low maintenance person.

Another person who has her eyebrows dyed…if I kept it up, I’d go every 3 weeks and that, along with eyebrow waxing, costs $25 + tip. My eyebrows kind of fade away at/after the arch so they look rather odd so it’s a significant improvement when they’re dyed. Having said that, life is busy and I don’t make it a high priority–I think of it when I have a big event coming up.

In my bag of cosmetics I do have a brow pencil but it seems too skinny and looks fake to me–just don’t care for the look. I also have something that looks like mascara but is for brows and it works okay but can be difficult to apply evenly.

Never occurred to me to try dying my own at home (a little intimidating) but maybe I’ll check out the “just for men” recommended upthread. If I could master that, I’d save myself time and money and, just maybe, consistently have full brows that are visible!

Pizzagirl- I tried the eyelash extensions around Christmas, you’re right, they are awesome. But I couldn’t bring myself to go in every 2 weeks to ‘maintain’ them, I can’t even maintain bangs (I hate going in to get them trimmed, so I do them myself and that is always a disaster!), so I guess they’re not something I can do for daily make-up. Also the first time I got them the girl put on ones that were too long (think prom length fake eyelashes!)…I looked ridiculous and she had to re-do them. I may re-look into tinting eyelashes though, those don’t require the upkeep the extensions do.
